Well, my mom had 5 kids, but our first births were almost identical. We both had our water break before labor started and had to get pitocin to get things going. From water breaking to birth was about 12 hours and pitocin to birth was 4 hours for me. Her labor was pretty much the same length but she labored on pitocin for longer than I did (I went from 5-10cm in like 20 minutes!). We'll see what happens this time around!

My mom always bragged about her short labors but I found out after my labor experience that her water broke hours before she went to the hospital. She didn't go to the hospital until she had contractions strong enough for her to feel but this is someone who doesn't need anesthesia when she goes to the dentist so her "short labors" were probably just as long as mine was the first time.
My water broke on its own in the middle of the night (2:00am ish) and I was told to go ahead and go to the hospital even though I wasn't feeling contractions yet. In hind sight I probably should have waited a little bit because my laber didn't really progress on its own and I was given pitocin. DD didn't handle the drug induced contractions well so I ended up with an emergency cesarian. DD was born at 5:20 pm. So technically I was in labor for just under 15 1/2 hours.
my mom had fast, short, all natural labors with 3/4 of us. With me (her 1st), she said the doctor had to get dressed really quick to deliver me and she was worried my dad would miss it because he was still parking the car! For me, with DS, i had about a 15 hour labor...and although i needed pitocin to help things along (and an epidural to help THAT along) the doctor was surprised and had to hurry up & get dressed as DS was crowning. Here's hoping #2 slips right out too.
Completely different. My mom was in labor for about 6 hours with me. I was in labor for about 30 hours with DS. I'm hoping the second time around is faster!
With my first my water broke and I immediately started with the contractions, so it was about 6 hours total (1.5 of pushing). With my second, I think I was contracting on and off in the afternoon, but from when the labor really got going and my delivery, it was closer to 4 hours and that was with them trying to slow it down so I could get my antibiotics. With the second I didn't have to push at all, he literally just fell out:) Hoping to not be that person pulled over on the side of the road delivering her baby on the way to the hospital!

Re: ? for 2+ moms: Labor length
My mom was au naturale and was 36 hours with her first.
I was induced with DS and it was 7 hours from start to finish.
I think this baby is literally going to just fall right out while I'm at work.

My Mom has VERY fast labors. Four kids and the longest was her induction with her youngest - 5 hours.
Her first was 2 hours, my first was 3 1/2. I am REALLY hoping it wasn't a fluke and I follow in her footsteps.
