Weight related, not what you think?

Do you ever think you weight different at home than at the doctors. I weight myself at home just before I leave for the appts so I am not shocked at the number on the scale. I always weight more at the doctors appt than at home. Maybe its just me.

  • Yeah, me too. I hate it.

My mom has a "mean scale" and hers is always right on with our scale and then the doc is like 2-3 lbs heavier. Weird.

  • mine is always dead one!
  • sorry i meant dead ON!! lol my ooops!
  • The scale in my dr's office is jacked up- it has weighed me up to 5lbs heavier than my scale at home and my friend's scale on the same day.

  • Scales are not calibrated the exact same way, which is why it's important to use a single scale consistently when you're monitoring your own weight. The important thing is not the number but the trend. I always weigh more at the doctor's office than I do at home.

Mine is always a few lbs lighter then the doctor's scale but I weigh myself usually in mornings and with very little clothes on.  At the doctor it is usually after a meal or two and I have on clothes plus shoes
  • I always weigh more at the doctors office too.  It's always depressing...

Exactly. I was in the hospital once and the nurse weighed me using the bed scale, I was a full 7-8 pounds heavier than what my scale at home said. I'm a few pounds heavier at the dr.'s than at home but, like pp said, the doctor is looking for the trend.

I'm not sure because I weight myself first thing in the morning, sans clothes, before I eat or drink anything and when I get weighted at the doctors it's usually with a tummy full of food and water, shoes, and heavy clothes.  Ugh, I hate seeing higher numbers at the docs when I know I'm really lower, lol!

I'm guessing though that my docs scale is just like mine at home b/c I've been keeping track of my at home weight and my at the docs office weight and the increase is about the same.

  • Yes, all the time! My scale is 5 lbs lighter than the doctor's office. They just got a new, digital scale and the nurse said everyone comments that it weighs heavy so that makes me feel better. Regardless, I guess its all relative, as the difference between start to finish in weight stays the same. However, I do hate seeing that number!!
  • I always weigh about 3 lbs more at my Dr.'s office. I hate seeing it, but at least I know that according to them I started at a higher weight. Personally, I just go by my own scale to make sure I'm not gaining too much or too little.
  • um, the scales are different...
  • I always weigh more at the doc's office because I have all of my clothes on and I keep my shoes on.  At home I weigh in at the same time each day with no clothes so I get a more accurate reading.  Plus, at my doc's office I use a different scale each time I go and they are all probably calibrated differently.

  • There was something messed up with my doctor's scale today. It said I was a full 4 pounds heavier than I am. My scale and my doctor's scale usually match up pretty well. I weighed myself before going to the doctor's office and there it said I'd gained 4 more pounds. My doctor thinks I've gained 7 pounds in a month, but I've only gained 3! That was annoying.

  • it depends how what you are wearing to the doctor's office... My scale at home says I'm lighter then what the scale at the doctor's office says.

But I noticed I don't wear my shoes when I weigh myself at home, where I do when I'm at the doctor's..

and really for some reason that made up the difference for me..
