Baby Showers

Brunch shower - what beverages?

Hi-

I'm hosting a brunch shower on a Sunday.  The menu is:

Apps:

Fruit

Veggies/Dip

Breadsticks/Dip

Entree:

Quiche

Zucchini Bread

Green Salad

Pasta Salad

Assorted sandwiches

What should I serve as beverages?  Obviously there will be coffee with the cake, but I'm not sure whether to serve sodas or juices, and I don't really want to do a complicated combo of both.  I'm also leaning toward mimosas for those who aren't preggo - so that would be champagne and OJ.  But I could really use your advice on non-alcoholic beverages, please!

Re: Brunch shower - what beverages?

  • At my shower (afternoon light lunch), the bottled water went quicker than sugary drinks. At one, the hostess tied on ribbon around the top and had a stickers over the label. Very cute.

It depends on your crowd, too. Plus, you don't want to offer too many choices and end up with ten half drank containers of juice. I'd go with OJ and Water and maybe a punch.

  • This punch is great

1part Cranberry juice, 1part 7up, 1part martinellies sparkling cider. Its nice and light and with lime make a great cocktail replacement for the rest of the day too!

    Orange Juice and grenadine

Those crystal geiser fruit spriters are great too :D

  • Mimosas and the punch posted above.

Also, have some sprite on hand so you can make the mom to be a fake mimosa!

  • tea, lemonade, water
  • I LOVE ginger ale and white grape juice. I drink it in place of my nightly glass of wine while I'm PG. Just one 2 liter bottle of gingerale and 1 bottle of juice. YOu can open one at a time and take the ones you dont open back to the store. Just a thought!

  • Punch!  There are tons of great recipes.

I agree though, don't offer too many choices.  There should be water (even tap water just on ice), punch, and mimosas if you want.

I told my sister the same thing for mine on Saturday.  She is making Sangria (everyone but me can enjoy!), and was talking about making a "pink-tini" too... I said that sounds like a lot.  In my experience if you make one thing, that is what will be consumed.

    Water

OJ with an option of a mimosa

I'd also do a hot beverage -- coffee, tea

  • IMO...I would skip punch.  I would have 2 different juices (orange and maybe apple or cranberry) and water.  Plus, the coffee and tea of course.  Mmmm...mimosas sound great!
  • I would do a sparkling lemonade or a fun (non-red) punch. Plus unsweetened ice tea (or sweet tea if you are from the South) and water.

My hostess bought 3 of these things (below) and is doing iced tea, water and this recipe, which is a sparkling pink lemonade punch. She made cute little labels to go on each one.

  • I love the mimosa idea, and having sprite on hand for the mom-to-be to have a fake one.  Beyond that, I think just water is fine, or pitchers of lemonade and iced tea as well. (Hmmm...maybe my southern is showing....)

  • Juice (you can glam up the juice by putting it on the rocks in a wine class that has melted sugar on the rim), Punch, tea, and lemonaid

  • You could get bottles of sparkling juice.  Very tasty.
