Baby Names

Need opinions...

Hi,

I mostly hang out on the second and third trimester boards but thought this might be the most appropriate place for my question.

So DH and I had pretty much decided on the name Maya Isabella for our LO and we haven't told anyone yet.

We went to lunch with some friends the other day and one of them says: Well, I hope you aren't naming her Isabella - that is now so popular because of Twilight (neither DH or I even knew that one of the Twilight characters were named Isabella).

Anyways, my question is, would you associate the same Isabella with Twilight? I personally want to keep it because I really like the name and since we are only using it as a middle name but DH now has some doubts. What do you think?

TIA

Re: Need opinions...

  • I would associate it with Twilight, but Isabella was really popular before Twilight. This name is nms, but if you've already decided on it I wouldn't let the Twilight connection keep you from using it.

  • I think if you named her Isabella and NN Bella, then yes... twilight association. But, because Isabella is your middle name... I wouldn't think twice.

I love your name by the way!

  • I would never associate that name with that movie/book.  I've never seen/read them.  I think Isabella is a beautiful name.

In 10 years no one is going to care that you used the name Isabella when those movies were popular.  They'll be in the $5 bargain bin at Walmart by that time!

That name is gorgeous.  Don't change it!

  • I personally wouldn't associate it with Twilight. I think it is a beautiful name.
  • Isabella is number 1 on the SS name list and I can assure you it is for many other reasons other then Twilight, but yes people will think of that or even Izzy from Grey's. But it is a middle name, so I wouldn't over think it too much.

  • No. Isabella was popular before Twilight. If anything, I thought a high schooler named "Bella" was a little weird since most Bellas I know are in the 1 month-3 year old range.
  • Isabella was popular waaaay before Twilight got huge... it is a very trendy name at the moment. (Check out it's 10 year history on the SSA name list) Twilight was published in 2005 and Isabella was already making leaps and bounds up the charts by that point.

I prefer Isabel, for what it's worth!

  • I would say yes, it would be associated with Twilight...but I have never seen the movie; and how often will you use her MN?
  • Thanks so much for your opinions everyone! I think we will keep it since it is a middle name.

    I really appreciate it!

Good call - this has always bugged me about movies and TV shows.

  • Twilight is a fad right now. Don't change it because of that. I'd only associate Twilight with the name Bella since that is what she mainly goes by in the books.

  • Isabella is such a beautiful and classic name. I did not associate the name with Twilight, and I have read the books. It never even entered my mind. It's a lovely name.
  • I would think of Twilight, but since you're using it as a middle name I don't think that it'll be that big of a deal!  Plus, Twilight is completely a fad right now, as someone above pointed out.  I think it's a really pretty name!
