DH and I decided on our names a while ago. I want our first baby to have the same initials as my best friend whether it's a boy or a girl. Our boy's name is Dylan Michael. I still love it and I don't want to change it. But I'm having second thoughts about the girl's name, which is Danielle Mackenzie. I'm still completely in love with Danielle, so that name isn't changing, but I'm not so crazy about Mackenzie anymore, for a few reasons :
1) When I told my friend that we planned on
naming our first daughter Danielle Mackenzie, she said "Like Mackenzie
Danielle (last name)?!", who is a girl we work with that I don't
particularly like. I had no idea her middle name was Danielle;
2) I got more negatives on the name from you guys on the BabyNames voting than I got positives;
3) When I told another lady at work, she said "It sounds like it should be the other way around, like Mackenzie Danielle".
So, I'm thinking that the name combo just doesn't sound good to most everyone except me and DH (and I'm even having doubts). Anyone have any suggestions for middle names that start with "M"? I don't like super popular names, FYI.
Re: Not crazy about DD's name anymore...
What about a variation of Mackenzie, like Mackenna or Mackayla. Some other M names:
Melanie
Molly
Marissa
Mattea
Madeleine
Meghan
Exactly. You will always run into someone who doesn't care for something about the name you choose! I think Danielle Mackenzie sounds fine, and really, how often do people even say middle names other than parents? So if you like it, keep it!

Go with what you love. We are using Makena as our little girls middle name. :-)
My DD is Danielle and her middle name starts with an M....I guess I will share
)- it's Maura (more-ah), it means Mary in Gaelic.
I think names grow on people and then it turns out that it fits. I made fun of my friend for naming her son Rafe and now he's Rafe and I don't see it any different. If you like Mackenzie it will grow on everyone and it will fit.
I think Danielle Mackenzie sounds fine. People are just saying switch it because "Danielle" is something that is often thrown around as a middle name, like Marie or Michelle. Two-syllable names with the accent on the second syllable are not very common, and they pretty much ALWAYS sound good no matter what the first name is. But Danielle Mackenzie ALSO sounds good.
Also, it would make a good screen name or pen name if your child decides to go into the arts.
However, I also agree with other posters that Mackenzie is in fact a trendy name, and Michaela (or any of its other bizarre spellings) is even worse, so if you're hoping to avoid that, don't pick Michaela!

Thanks ladies. You've all been a big help. I'm still keeping Mackenzie in mind and trying not to let others taint the name like you all said, but I don't know that it's my favorite anymore. And yes, I realize that it was kind of confusing to say that I don't like super popular, trendy names when my first choice was Mackenzie. I guess maybe I got tired of hearing it, lol. I don't normally like them enough to use them, but I guess I did with that one.
I do like Michaela a lot, but DH isn't so into it, I don't think. And someone said that if I use it not to spell it Michaela - I think that is the original English spelling The other spellings that I've found have been American, not English, and they say "form of Michaela". It makes sense to me, since it's the feminine form of Michael. It means the same thing at Michael.
