Minnesota Babies

So... We need to move, I'm thinkin'...

Dunno how many of you watch channel 5 news, but on tonight's 5:30pm session the first story was about a 19 year old woman's body found near a golf course that's on the border of Brooklyn Center and Minneapolis. It seems to be a homicide as a result from domestic violence and while the man has been arrested, it makes me a little uneasy. I'm wondering if any of you have any recommendations of cities we could possibly look into for a move in the next few years?

We would want to be near the cities, love the Mpls. park systems (so being near the Mpls. trail systems would be nice), but really want a city with a good school system. Do any of you ladies have suggestions? We're also not rich, so Sun Fish Lake will have to wait. ;-)

Note: I forgot to mention we live about a block and a half away from where that woman's body was found...

  • FWIW-domestic abuse murders happen in every neighborhood.  I love my Como Park Neighborhood.

I felt uneasy after my neighbor was murdered by his brother next door to my old house.  I saged the neighborhood.  It freaked me out to no end.  And by neighbor, I mean next door:(

  • As a fellow Northsider, I understand where you are coming from, but I also know you have always been a great advocate of nomi whenever people have asked for suggestions on where to live.  Try to remember all of the great things you already have right where you are!
  • I have no advice, but Aubri's new pictures are adorable!
  • What about Roseville or some of the 1st and 2nd ring suburbs?  You'd still be close to Minneapolis, but it's slighly tamer.

  • Brooklyn Park, Maple Grove, Osseo, Plymouth---lots of great parks in MG and Plymouth.  Maybe Champlin?

  • West St. Paul is first ring with lots of different housing options. And less than 15 min. from Minnehaha (and only about 12 min. from the airport, which is the best).

  • Anything in the Hopkins school district would be good.

  • We live in Mounds View and the school systems are great, plus it's only a 12 minute drive to downtown Mpls.  There's lots of parks, and bike trails in the Mounds View/New Brighton areas.  We really love it!

  • I have friends that live in St. Louis Park and LOVE it. They don't have school aged kids, so I can't comment on the school district, but it is really close to Lake Calhoun and the Mpls parks.

I would definitely recommend Eagan. Lots of great parks and very kid friendly! The 196 School District (Eagan, Apple Valley, Rosemount) is supposed to be one of the best in the metro. Unfortunately, it's probably a little farther out than you would like to be.

  • That's why we moved out of the East Side of St. Paul. Too many cops chasing people thru our court yard.

Bloomington is AWESOME! We have our own parks systems with is freakin awesome (heard of Chutes and Ladders? That's here!). Plus we are just a short drive to the Nokomis area. Great for walks in the summer.

    Guess where I live, LOL!

  • We researched quite a few places prior to moving in late 2005. We lived 1 year in an apt. in Burnsville. We liked it there. Eagan was nice, too. Then we moved into a house. I really like Richfield, Bloomington, & Woodbury. I've found most cities are within 20 mins. apart. The first 2 suburbs are both within about 10-20 mins. from the MSP airport & The Mall of America. Woodbury about the same distance from the first 2 cities. I also worked at a before & after school daycare program for I.S.D. # 196 (I believe that is the one for Roseville). I liked the school I worked for & it's programs & community education center & surrounding suburbs.
