Stretch Marks

Alright Ladies, what's the deal with stretch marks? Does lotion & massage really help?? I hear if your mother had them then most likey you will, but my mom had 5 kids, and we have different skin types. I mean, either way, its a small price to pay for a beautiful baby! I just want to prepare myself, and if lotion helps, use it alot! Haha, Thanks!

I have also heard it's genetic and there is really nothing you can do about them.

Same here. I honestly don't know if my Mom has them or not. I did use the Curel pregnancy lotion last time, and I only got a few silvery stretch mark around my navel. They were never even red like you usually see. And I had a huge baby!

  • If you do get them, try using silicone gel sheets on the purple ones. They really help take the red away quickly.

  • I think it's genetic (which gives me hope, because my Mama didn't get stretch marks until her 4th, and they weren't bad, they faded away pretty quickly). I have been using lotion though, but more just because I think there's a better chance that moisturized skin will be more comfortable when it's stretching than dry skin would be?

  • I've never had a baby before, but five years ago I had cervical cancer and part of my treatment was hormone therapy. I gained 25 pounds in 5 weeks (they warned me of this, so I wasn't completely surprised), and got stretch marks ALL OVER my hips.

I had been in shape and thin my entire life, and was incredibly healthy during this process so I have a hard time believing that there was much I could have done to prevent this.

Generally, you wouldn't be gaining that much weight that fast in pregnancy, but I thought I would share it anyway.  My mom got stretch marks with her pregnancies, so I think there was a certain amount of genetic predisposition to it.

  • I heard of bio oil.  I have never used it but will try it this time around.

  • It's definitely genetic! A friend of mine has 4 kids and has not 1 stretch mark on her stomach, but my sis got a ton of them after her 1st kid. =/

  • They are genetic. I have heard if you don't gain too much weight and you keep yourself well hydrated (inside and out) you may have a lesser chance of getting them.

I got them during puberty so they aren't anything new to me.

I've heard this as well, but I'm using Bio-oil just in case it can help. It can't hurt any, so I'm going to try.

  • i'm a pretty thin kid, but even gaining and losing a few in college i had notable stretch marks on my gut.  unbelievable... i cannot even imagine what's in store for me!
  • Thanks for all your suggestions ladies! I will have to try the Bio Oil, I am just using Palmers Stretch Mark Massage Cream right now. My skin has pretty good elasticity so i am hoping that helps! I guess its just wait and see!
