TTC After a Loss

WWTTCALD: Morbid D&C question

I found out I lost another baby. I'll need yet another D&C.

I have an apt. with my doc tomorrow. They're gonna see if the hospital has any last minute openings but it's a REALLY slim bet that they can fit me in on Friday.

Here's the problem. My travel schedule is as follows:

Tues AM - fly to Denver (CANNOT get out of this). Return Thurs PM. (I can take a red-eye Wednesday and make a late-morning procedure.

Sunday AM - SoCal. Return Thurs. PM (might be able to leave or return a day early for late-morning procedure - one week after option above).

Friday PM - depart for SD. Return Monday PM.

So, couple questions:

  1. Is Friday - Tues enough recovery time?
  2. Do I need to try and move mountains and get out of trip 2?
  3. Special snowflake?

I just can't figure out when the hell I'm gonna be able to get this done!

Can you tell I'm getting used to losing babies? Crying

Re: WWTTCALD: Morbid D&C question

  • Oh, I hate that you even have to post this.  I think Fri to Tues is enough recovery time.  Heck, for my 2nd D&C, I went to a birthday party that same day.  I would've like to have rested, but only needed another day or so. Do you have a plan if tomorrow doesn't work?

Again, I'm so sorry. We are here for you.

  • I am so sorry for your loss.  Everyone is different but I was feeling okay a couple of days after (physically).  So for me...Fri - Tues would be enough recovery time.  There were a couple of days that were bad a few weeks down the road in terms of cramping...but I went back to work the next day.  I hope this helps.  ((Hugs))

I am so sorry that you have to even think about this ((hugs)). I think it's enough time. It's definitely enough time to recover physically... but emotionally it's iffy. I went back into the real world in the same amount of time. (D&C On Friday, back to school Tuesday... weird really) It was still hard but I found that having distractions actually helped.

Again, I'm so so so so so so so (times a million) sorry

  • I don't know about recovery time because I never had a D & C, but I just want to say how so very sorry I am that you are going through this again.

I would try to get out of the trip because you may not feel up to it emotionally. However, if you are like me, you may want to go so it will keep your mind off everything....

    ((((hugs)))))

  • Oh, and a couple more issues.

The first trip is rough. I'll be standing, presenting ALL day... and if I'm hurting or fatigued from the procedure this will KILL me.

The second trip I'm just there, sitting in the back, representing my company... plus (and this is morbid) it's AT a kickass hospital so if I'm having complications, well, I'm in the right spot.

When would you get the D&C?

Not really - other than switching to a red-eye so I could swing a Thursday procedure. I'm just terrified that I'll start to naturally mc while I'm in Denver, alone (or worse surrounded by people while I'm teaching).

  • I don't know the answer to your question but I'm SO sorry you're going through this!

  • How impossible is it to avoid the first trip?

I've not had a D&C, but I can't imagine standing all day after that procedure.

  • I'm so sorry.  This really sucks.

I have had 2 D&Cs, and I was able to function within a few days, so I think Friday-Tuesday is enough time.  I was still bleeding heavily, but I was able to go to work and all.  I also think it's better to get it over with so you're not thinking about your impending surgery.  If you absolutely need a pain pill, would you be able to take one and function?

  • 1. I think that is enough "physical" recovery time.  At least with the D&Cs I've experienced.

    2. You might want to for your mental health.

  • Personally, I think even if you are standing on Tuesday or Wednesday, that if the D&C were tomorrow, that would be enough recovery time physically.

It's the mental part that I found harder.  I had my last D&C on a Friday and started a new job three days later on Monday (to avoid a natural happening at my new job).  I hated it, but I made it through and actually having that distraction was somewhat helpful.

You have to do what's right for you.  I think you are totally within your rights to move the trip if that's what you decide.  Good luck to you.  We're thinking of you. ((hugs))

  • I'll also add that it might be best emotionally if you can have it done sooner.  Did you recover quickly from your previous D&Cs?  Mine were in the early morning and I went to work the next day both times - but I have a sit down desk job.

  • What a nightmare.  If they can get you in tomorrow I would definitely do that.  I could have gone back to work the day after my D&C on Tuesday(which was done around noon), but I took an extra day to rest.  I went back Thursday and Friday that week.  If you have the whole weekend to rest I think you'll be fine to fly Tuesday.

If you can't have it done tomorrow, I would probably do anything I could to get out of the second trip.  It would be so awful for you if you started to m/c naturally while you were away - although being at the hospital already is a plus.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this again.  I hope you can everything worked out.

  • I am so sorry for your loss and that you're going through this again! ((HUGE HUGS)) I had my D&C on a Friday and I was physically OK by Tuesday, but I wouldn't want to be standing all day. I wish you lots of strength in the next few days, I'll be thinking of you.

  • SUCK.

Can you or would you be interested in using misoprostal?  Or will you be having the tissue karyotyped? (they aren't exclusive, but it's easier with a d&c).

     Double SUCK.

    I'm so sorry.

  • I think it would be enough time but mainly I just want to say I'm so sorry. You shouldn't have to be back here. (( Big Hugs))

  • I haven't had a D&C, so I don't know the answer to your question :(  For me, the first-third days of my m/c's were always the worst, but I don't know if the same goes for a D&C.

::hugs:: I'm so sorry you have to do this again.

  • NO!  I wish you weren't back here again, I am so so sorry ((HUGS))

I would say fri-tuesday is enough recovery time for the physical pain.  I had my D&C thursday afternoon, went to work monday, and I am on my feet moving around all day for work.  I really wish you didn't have to go through this again. :(

Ugh, I am so sorry and angry that you are going through this again and making these decisions.

For me, the physical recovery was not bad at all.  I worked on my feet all day the next day.  The emotional recovery was the trouble part, but alas there's no way around that.

By the way, if you do end up having to come to SoCal, and if said kickass hospital is in LA, and if you want a just-in-case Ob rec, PM me.  I know Ob's in several kickass hospitals...

  • Friday to Tuesday is plenty of time to recover if all goes well.  By 2 days after both my procedures I had stopped bleeding.  Honestly, I think it would be worse to start bleeding on your trip and have the possiblility of going to the ER if it gets too heavy.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this at any time, especially when you have little to no control over your schedule.

  • Ugh...I'm so sorry this is happening to you again.  How sh!tty.

I went to work the day after my D&C and was fine.  I wasn't on my feet all day, but did walk around quite a bit because I couldn't concentrate and sit still....physically I was totally fine.  Hardly any bleeding or cramping.  I would get it scheduled ASAP just to get it over with.

  • I am so sorry. Horrible timing. I don't know how you do it, I would have canceled everything! But to answer your question, I had my d&c on Thursday and went shopping Saturday to cheer myself up. I felt pretty much fine. I am sorry again, I hope it all goes smoothly.

  • I'm so so sorry for your loss.

I would say Friday to Tuesday should be enough recoup time.  I had a wedding to go to 4 days after my D&C and while it was incredible emotionally and physically draining I made it through.

I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. (((hugs)))

  • I am so, so sorry.

I would say that Friday-Tuesday is enough recovery time.  The day after my D&C I closed on our new home and did some light moving.  Two days after the movers came for us.  There was no way we could reschedule the closing or the move.

Just make sure you give yourself time where you're able to rest while on your trips.

    ((hugs))
