diaper rash and new pampers dry max - help!

So I switched alexis to the new pampers when they came out.  I only put them on her for night time and naps, she wears pull-ups the rest of the time.  She has a horrible diaper rash now.  I've never seen her like this - little red spots covering her whole area and its bothering her, she keeps grabbing at the diaper and trying to scratch.  She woke up a few times last night, I didn't think anything of it, but now I think she may have been uncomfortable and she won't nap today (of course of all days!).  I know there was concern over the new Pampers causing a diaper rash, and I'm thinking this may be it.  Now - what can I do?  I'm going to go to Publix and get the chlorine free diapers to use and I've been putting desitin on her, but she is really uncomfortable.  I can't give her benadryl b/c of course it was recalled and i threw it out.

Re: diaper rash and new pampers dry max - help!

  • OMG!  I am having the same problem! Pampers has been my choice since Leila was born 100%.  I never had a problem until of course I bought a 138 box of the new dry max.  I noticed from day 1 although at first it didn't click why.....  I have two DR creams that I swear by, the Lansinoh one and the Dr Boudreaux Butt Paste.  They help a great deal, but still DD never suffered from DR until they changed these diapers.  Just today I bought a box of Huggies to see if I can prove the diapers were definitely the problem.  I saw a report this weekend where they claim it is all good and they do not give diaper rash but my experience says otherwise....

  • It sounds like you've taken all the right steps. I'm not sure what else can be done, other than making sure her diaper is changed immediately after she wets it but I guess that's hard to do if she only wears them to sleep. We have been using dry max cruisers cause we had tons and luckily have not had any problems. I saw on the news this week that proctor and gamble said they have found no direct correlations between dry max and the rashes. They say IRS due to other things- skin sensitivities and being on a wet diaper too long. I'm not sure how true that is since I have heard of complaints fr people that have not had problems with rashes before. Hope Alexis gets better soon!

  • Leanna, you could always pick up the generic of Benadryl -- only the brand names were recalled. That might help if its an allergic reaction to the diapers. We also use California Baby baby powder on bad diaper rashes because it doesn't burn like some of the pastes tend to on broken skin.

Good luck and hope she feels better.

  • I caught a news report the other day re: these diapers.. THey said its not actually diaper rash but a chemical burn?? I didn't see the whole thing but I would definitely switch and maybe ask your pedi what to do??

I hope she feels better soon..

  • I had to switch Maia to non-chlorine diapers cause she was really sensitive to all the diapers, especially the pampers though. Luckily she's potty trained now, but I've noticed Kaila getting a lot of rashes when I use pampers too. I've been switching back and forth with huggies cause the huggies keep leaking out, but I think I might prefer the leaking to the rash. Try Triple Paste, they sell a small tube that's not as expensive as the tub. If that doesn't work ask the pharmasicist for a jar of Calmoseptine (not the tube, it's not as good don't know why). They might have to order it for you and it's expensive but it's awesome.

  • you can try triple cream on her.  It works great on bad rashes.  Air it out as much as possible!  Poor little thing.

  • The news up here was saying the same thing about chemical burns vs. DR. We use the Drymax diaers overnight b/c C is a heavy wetter, but havent noticed any signs of DR. I'll def be keeping an eye out for it now. I hope Alexis feels better soon!
