DH and I really like the way Aidan sounds with the middle/last name, but I don't know if I could use it since it's soooo popular. Although, like OP said, I've actually never met anyone IRL named Aidan/Aiden.

See that's what I don't get. Some of the names are super popular, but we only know of one Jaden (our's), although we have met a baby Caden and grownup actually in his 20's named Aidan.
We named DS1 Logan, because we both really loved the name and had for a long time. I've heard people refer to it as trendy (maybe rightfully so!) on here, but I still love it! The only thing I didn't realize when we used it (and it may have made us change our mind) was the increasing usage of Logan for girls. Ick! It is all boy to me!
I do kind of like the surname as first name trend (for boys), so I tend to like Grayson, Finnegan, Clayton, Hudson, etc.

Because there are so many names to choose from now, the top names are not as common as they were 20 years ago. For example, the top boys name in 2009 was Jacob, but only 20,858 (0.9952%) children in the US were actually named Jacob in that year. But if you look at 1989, the top name for boys was Michael and 65,386 of children had this name. I think that is why you do not run into as many of the top names IRL.
I like Harper for a girl and it's incredibly trendy. I also love surnames for boys. One of my top 2 boy names is Crawford (most people don't like it, I don't care).
I like most of the girls' names in the top ten - Olivia, Isabella, Sophia, Abigail...I don't like Ava or Madison and I can't remember the others. I love Emily. I don't consider all of them "trendy" though - just popular.
As for boys, I don't like any of the names I consider "trendy" now...the Brayden/Jayden/Cayden thing is so not my style. I can't think of any other trendy names. I like the "popular" ones like Michael and William though.
I like trendy names for boys- love last names as first names - Mason, Griffin, Preston, Sawyer, Cooper, Sullivan, Porter, etc. I'm sure those names will be seen as having been a trend in 20 years but I love them and I named DS#1 Mason.
I like Aidan for a boy too but it's my nephew's name and I know about 10 little boys named Aidan so that killed it for me.
I honestly don't think I like any trendy or popular girl names. I like old lady names (Violet, Penelope, Matilda, Oliva, etc.). Those names might be trendy too- time will tell I suppose.
i love oliver and was already anticipating that it would be in the top 100. i'm fully expecting it to be in the top 25 in a few years. i don't know if i will use it for our second boy in several years but if it's in the top 10 or if i know several olivers, then i won't.

Not trendy, but popular... we loved Sophia before we knew that ds was a boy. But, it was way too popular, so instead, Colin would've been Lila. And of course, DD is Olivia and that's popular... I don't regret it though. We still love it, it fits her to a tee, and I have yet to meet another child near her age in our area named Olivia.
We both love Aiden. DH has had it in mind for a few years because it's the name of one of his favorite bands. But we agreed to not use it because of popularity, and then my cousin used it anyway. We also love Mason, and are on the fence do to it becoming more and more common.
We love Emily and was going to use it if DS #1 was a girl. The popularity always bothered me though (even though I think it is classic and not trendy). This time we had chosen Evelyn which is becoming popular and is far more popular than the boy names we chose. I loved the name Owen for awhile until I kept hearing it everywhere I went. I also like Jacob, William, Jackson, and Gavin, but they are all too popular. Both of the names we chose are ranked in the 400s which is perfect for us!
For girls my favorite names in the top spots is Abigail and Elizabeth. I would use it but it probably won't make the final cut.
For boys I like a lot of the very popular names. I like Ethan a lot, Noah, Matthew, Andrew, Jackson, Aiden...
I guess I am the most bummed about the over-done Aiden trend. It is actually the name of my father and grandfather. Up until 10 years ago I had never met another Aiden other than my dad and grandpa. Now? yeesh.
I don't really like any "trendy" boy names, although my favorite boy name is Alexander and it is #4 on the SSA list for 2009. But I consider the majority of the top boy names (including Alex) to be classic names, not really "trendy."

This is interesting. It's NEVER been in the top 25. I think it peaked at 81. And I know this because it's my FI's name!
I would use Ethan or Noah, which are both in the top 10. I think my favorite girl's name, Amelia, is becoming more popular.
We need a name with an S, but our last name starts with S so it's difficult to find ones that sounds good. Sophia sounds perfect, but way too popular for my liking.
I really like Aiden, but that's my BIL's name, so that one's out. I like Jacob and Michael, too, but those are more classics than trendy, I think, just because they've been popular for so long. Other than that, I don't really like most of the trendy boy names. The problem I have with a lot of boys names is that I like the longer version, but not the common nickname that he would inevitably be called (ex. Alexander--> Alex; Anthony-->Tony, etc.).
For girls, I like Olivia, Mia, Isabelle (Izzy), Chloe, Emma, Addison, Elizabeth... I like a lot of the trendy names. But I would never want my child to have to go by his/her last initial, too. That was one of my favorite things about being the only one with my name in school.

I love Harper, and am actually going to go with it for our DD that we just found out was a girl this week! I know it's trendy, but I love it and so does DH, and we haven't agreed on ANY names this whole time. We can just picture a little girl Harper running around, and I think it will take her into adulthood well too..and to make matters worse the middle name will be Grace. But, that's ok... We love it!
samantha. it's not super trendy, but it's usually between #7 and #15 depending on the state. we'll probably end up using it (it's been at the top of our list for a long time now). just looking for a good middle name. . .
Re: What popular/trendy names do you love
DS: 10/11/14
I love the name Emily, which has been popular for years. I don't consider it trendy, though. I think it's classic.
I would probably use it for a DD if it wasn't already used in DH's immediate family.

Madeline - love it, but too many Maddy's. Also really like Adeline & Addison, but they are too popular.

Most of the names I like are somewhat popular-Emma, Emily, Olivia, Jacob
That said we are naming our daughter, Elizabeth and it is now 11th in popularity for girls. My son is Caleb and it is #31. I just like both names!
Sophia (that one may still be in the running anyway. DH likes it)
Olivia
Ava
Grace seems to be super popular as a MN, but we may use it as a MN anyway

Isabelle and Gavin. Too trendy.
Our DD was #400-something in 2009, so not at all popular. And with the last name Smith, that's a good thing! We will also avoid trendy for Baby #2.
For girls my favorite names in the top spots is Abigail and Elizabeth. I would use it but it probably won't make the final cut.
For boys I like a lot of the very popular names. I like Ethan a lot, Noah, Matthew, Andrew, Jackson, Aiden...

Girls: Sophie, Olivia, Eva, Chloe (I basically love half of the SSA top 10)
Boys: Eli, Caleb, Owen, Liam
If I were truly in love with one of them, I would probably use it anyway, but we have family names that aren't as popular that we love just as much!
I really like Harper, Ava and Olivia for girls.

I love Olivia, Isabelle, and Ava!
For a boy I love Aiden and Jackson.

Not a big fan of trendy names but my favorite boy names are pretty common/popular
Joshua, Noah, Mathew and Benjamin are some of my favorites!
