We are in the 2WW of our second IVF. I got my first BFP at 3dp5dt, which is (as you know) really freaking early. We transferred back three embryos, so based on the early BFP and the # at transfer we're thinking we may be KU with more than one.
My question is were they able to tell at your first beta that there might be more than one? or did you not really know anything until your first ultrasound?
Also, how long did it take to get from beta to ultrasound?
My last IVF was beta hell and my numbers were all really, really low. I don't know how this works for a normal/healthy pregnancy (assuming that this pregnancy will be normal/healthy).
Re: IVF ladies - a question
Betas don't always indicate a multiple pregnancy. Only an u/s will be able to tell you if you are having multiples or not.
Good luck!
Ditto what pp said, high beta doesn't always equal multiples.
My beta was 1001 at 13dp3dt, and I had an u/s at 4w5d, where we saw we little sac. So I totally thought we only had 1 in there. A week later, at 5w5d, we saw 2 sacs but one looked empty (no fetal pole). About another week after that we heard two h/bs!
Good luck! I'm so thrilled for you!
4 Fresh IVF cycles + 1 FET where embies didn't survive the thaw = 2 perfect little men!
sFET 11/9/11 - Beta 11/18 BFP!
I've had 2 IVF pregnancies. My betas were very high for both. Twins were suspected, but the first was a singleton, and the second was twins. You never know until you see them. Both times, my first ultrasound was done at 6 weeks, or about a week after my last beta.
GL!
Congrats on your BFP! Did you make sure to test out your trigger??
My betas were off the charts high for even twins (I used clomid not IVF). But there is no guarantee that high betas mean multiples. My first ultrasound was at 5w6d and we had 2 sacs and 2 heartbeats. I'm sure your RE won't schedule you for a scan much earlier than that (other than maybe to check the location of the pregnancy).
Best of luck and I can't wait to hear an update!!
We did not know until an ultrasound we were having twins when they saw 2 sacs. Betas are not necessarily indicators as my first beta was really low at 24. My Dr. actually cautioned me that it may not even be a viable pregnancy cause my initial beta was so low.
Congrats on your BFP, I also did 2 IVFs and I wouldn't wish IF on my worst enemy. Good luck to you.
hey there!!!! I had my first beta at 9dp5dt and it was 308. 2 days later it was 828. At that time they def thought multiples. I could have gotten an u/s at 5wks but i wanted to have one at 6wks. i thought 5wks would be too early.
You really can't tell from betas but i know alot of nurses do guess. I mean they see them all the time. But the u/s is when you will find out for sure.
Oh i really hope this is it for you!! Can't wait to find out

High betas don't always mean multiples. Mine did, but it was just coincidence. My first beta at 14dp3dt was 619. A week later it was over 7200. My nurse said she wouldn't say for certain we were expecting more than one, but none of us were shocked to see 2 babies on the u/s at 7w3d.
My first beta was 553, high but not OMG I am having twins. My second beta was 1593 (I think). Again high but not beyond the possiblity of a singleton. I had my first ultrasound at 6w1d, yep it was twins- we saw both heartbeats that day.
First of all, CONGRATS!
Our first beta was really high, but no one would confirm or deny possible multiples. Like pp said, only and u/s can determine. 2nd and 3rd betas doubled normally, so I figured it was only one... WRONG! LOL
We had our first u/s 2 wks after 1st beta... too long! LOL
GL!

2 chem preg, 4 failed IUIs, 2 canc IVFs, 2 BFN IVFs, IVF #5 = BFP!!!

First u/s 3/29 @ 5 weeks 2 days - 3 sacs 6 weeks 3 days - 3 heartbeats 8 Weeks - Lost Baby C, Babies A and B going strong
I just saw that your first bfp was at 5d3dt - which is really early. Hopefully it is not the trigger. Are you still testing positive?

Once it doubled that's when she made a comment that it could possibly be more than one, but that she couldn't guarantee it.
Congrats!
Hi! Thrilled to see you here.
I have to ask, as others have asked: Did you pee out your trigger? I once thought I had a BFP, but what I really had was some leftover shot. I wouldn't wish that roller coaster on anyone, and I sincerely hope that what you've got is the real thing.
To answer your Qs: I peed early as well (I have no self-control), but I was peeing out my trigger. I started sort of trusting the one I peed on at 6dp5dt, because it was the first one that was darker than the one the day before.
My first beta, at 9dp5dt, was high. 375. I knew that only an ultrasound would confirm, but I definitely suspected multiples, and wasn't surprised when it was multiples. I had that first ultrasound at exactly 7 weeks (my doc wouldn't allow it any earlier than that--he likes to see heartbeats).
I wish you the very best of luck over the next few days. Hope to see you back here or on SAIF.
Prior to starting IVF I had a m/c and 3 c/ps. The never checked beta #s with my first pregnancy, but did with the 3 c/ps so I know all about beta hell.
My first IVF was a failure. We transferred 3 blasts with my FET #1 and as you can see they all stuck. My betas were 995 at 12dp5dt. It made me wonder if it was multiples but they say you really can't judge by beta numbers alone. So we really didn't know anything until the first u/s. At my first u/s we saw 3 sacs. A week later at the 2nd u/s we were able to see a h/b in each sac.
Good luck! I hope this is it for you!!!
i went through beta hell with my 2nd IVF so I understand how horrid that is. : (
My beta was high I think but it was almost identical to one of my close friend's and she's having a singleton. I hear your progesterone # is a better indicator of multiples than a beta. I found out at my first u/s. GL!
Not correct for IVF. There is no corpus luteum made in an IVF cycle so the progesterone level is from artificial supplementation. For someone like me who was on clomid and had 2 eggs release I had a very high progesterone (99) because there was more than one corpus luteum releasing P.
Good to know! Thanks : )
thanks and yes I did test out my trigger it was out by 3dp5dt AM. My first positive came that night - I am now 5dp5dt and testing about every 24 hours to watch the line, each time the line is darker than the last.
Congratulations!! I am so happy for you!
High betas aren't indicative of multiples, but my betas were high and here I am with twins. We didn't know for sure until our first u/s at 6w6d. That's when we saw two sacs and heard the little heartbeats courtesy of the vag cam.
6 IUIs,IVF #1 w/ICSI = BFP!
Betas, 332 & 856 = twins!
Our baby girl is here!
Great News. Congrats.

My betas were really high when I compared them with singletons on betabase.info. I was also higher than average for twins. The nurse said, "You are definitely pregnant!" When I asked about twins she said, "I'm just saying . . . your numbers are high!"
We did my ultrasound at around 5 weeks where we saw two definite sacs and a possible third one - even though we only transferred two. When we went back, only two.
First off, congrats!
My first beta (9dp5dt) was initially low - 126 and my second beta, two days later was only 356... we found out it was twins via u/s
Nikki - congrats! So happy to hear about the BFP.
Like others have said beta numbers dont tell you for sure if you are having multiples.
I thought that I was K/U with twins based on my high beta numbers. I used beta base and my numbers came out a little high for twins.
Beta #1 at 13 days post IUI was 154, #2 at 16 days post was 452, and #3 at 20 days post was 1951. First U/S was at 7 weeks, 2 days and there were two babies with heartbeats and a third empty gestational sac. So for me beta base was pretty accurate.
Good luck honey! This time it is your turn!
CONGRATS!!!!!! OMG, I am so happy for you!
My first beta was off the charts for a singleton pregnancy, and my second one doubled in about 42 hours, if I remember. The nurse told me we'd come in to see how many there were in there.
Our first u/s was at 5w6d, and there were in fact two!
I am so stinkin' happy for you!
This is the first thing I thought when I read your post. Our betas were high but not freakishly there are quads high. Good Luck!!
