Yikes!!!!!! So my doc told me that I should only be gaining a pound a week so I obviously have NOT done that. She said it wouldnt affect the baby; it would just be harder for me to lose the weight. I am really upset because I dont indulge in anything. I'm not the typical pregnant woman who just eats crazy cravings like ice cream and sweets. I can't workout as much now because I faint when I walk/speedwalk now that I am pregnant. I was used to running 4 miles a day before. All I have been able to handle now are pregnancy workout dvds. Has anyone else experienced this? I don't want to diet since I am pregnant, but now I find myself being overly critical on what I am eating.
Re: I gained 17 lbs in 11 weeks!!!!!!
Just because you gained big now, doesn't mean you won't have weeks down the road without a gain and it won't all even out. With DS, I gained 11 pounds total, 7 of those in the last two weeks. As long as you're eating sensible and trying to maintain some activity, which it seems you are, I wouldn't be concerned.
Have you thought about trying a prenatal water aerobics class? That might provide a low-impact work out, too.
Just remember - you are a beautiful woman.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just try to eat healthy and fit in some excerise when you can.
I gained 8 pounds in 4 weeks at one point. But I've noticed like spurts and then it slows down.
Please keep your LOs RF as long as possible
Yep, I'm experiencing that. I am pretty careful of what I eat, I don't usually eat garbage because I have to work very hard to maintain my weight, I gain very easily. I am a runner too, and gave it up around week 18 and started walking quickly. I am a food journaler so I how much I've been eating and I've been pretty careful. I have gained (according to my scale at home) 22.6lbs and I am 21 weeks today. I am unsure what to do.
With my first pregnancy I gained 80lbs, but I had lost it all by 4 months post partum. My goal this time was 25lbs, but I'm only 2lbs away from that! I'm not sure what to do either.
Didn't know that was the "typical" pregnant woman. Most pregnant woman I know actually eat rather healthy and probably don't indulge anymore than they would prior to pregnancy.
All I can say is keep eating healthy and exercise moderately (i.e. walking). There is not much else you can do. I would not be too worried about losing the weight. If you used to run 4 miles a day before being pregnant, my guess is you must workout on a regular basis, so you should not have a problem.
Exactly! SOme weeks are more of a gain than others!! If you were VERY active pre pregnancy and cant do as much now, this might just be your body reacting to such a change!!!
Best of luck, seems like you are doing everything right!!!!!

I think that will be the hardest part for me... when i start not being to run (getting there) or exercise as much. My body loves putting on weight the second it sees the chance, and it never likes to come off... so I am wary of any non-essential- baby weight.
I feel for you, it would frustrate me too.
Everyone has such good advice!
I just got told this at my last appt., but my doctor was less concerned with me losing weight after the pregnancy and more concerned with my baby growing too big and the chance of getting gestational diabetes. baby is measuring really large, so she suggested me cutting back (but not cutting out) carbs and eating more vegetables. a lot of insurance companies include a nutritionist during pregnancy. mine did, and i spent an hour on the phone with one this morning. give your insurance company a call to give you some guidance.
i also just started a water aerobics for pregnant women class and i love it. in addition to not feeling the pain of a regular workout, i slept better than i have the entire pregnancy.
This. And I agree it goes in spurts.
At my 18 wk. appt. I had gained 8 lbs. in 5 wks. and received a lecture from the doc. Then at my appt. last week I had only gained 1/2 lb. in 5 wks. It's just growth spurts I think.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, although I can certainly see why you'd stress out about it. But from looking at your pictures, you seem like a tiny, tiny woman, so perhaps your body needs the weight. You are right in the fact that you shouldn't diet, because THAT will be detrimental to the baby, whereas the extra weight won't be.
Besides, if you were that active prior to your pregnancy, I"m sure you will have no issue getting right back at it afterwards, so even if you have an extra few pounds to lose, it will come right off with the workouts!!
Hang in there! I know it's hard some days, but just think of your healthy little one in there!
