Pregnant after 35

RP **freaking out a bit, can you share your u/s and beta stories?

Hi ladies,  I'm bordering on very sad and need some reassuarnce... I went for an u/s yesterday at 6 w 3d and could see only yolk sac and beginning of fetal pole.  No HB :(  RE says that it's literally the time that the heart should be beating and we'd certainly be "reassured" if we saw it.  Also, Dr. checked my betas and they only went up to 17000 from 12000 (5 days between), so still rising but not as fast as before.  My stats:

OPK surge:  4/8 (OV between 4/8-4/9)

BFP HPT:  4/18 (very faint line that grew darker over the next 4 days when I POAS 16, yes, 16 times!)

4/22: Beta 250 ; proges 40+  WHEW!

4/24: Beta 654; proges 40+ YES!

4/29: Beta 4000;  u/s showed a empty ges sac at 4.5mm..YES! it's in my ute!

5/5: Beta 12,000;  u/s showed empty ges sac at 10 mm.  oookay.

5/11:  Beta 17,000; u/s showed ges sac ~20 mm, a yolk sac, "small" fetal pole, no HB :( hhhmmmm.

I'm going for another u/s Friday morning hoping to see a HB...anyone else NOT see a HB at ~6wks, then go on to see one?  I've seen so many posts of HBs at like 5.5 weeks...  AND/OR did your betas slow and you still went on to have an ok preg?  I've had three m/c (bo, chem and ectopic) and have never gotten this far, let alone seen a HB.  Freaking out, I'd really like this one to stiiiick.  Seems to be slipping..:(

any stories to share to cheer me up would be great..thanks ladies xo

  • I posted in your original thread. Since you're basing erything on a positive OPK, I think your dates are off and you're just a few days behind where you think you are.

  • Hang in there.  I'm saying prayers for you.  When I originally went at 8wks, the doctor said that it was too small.  Here exact words were "The baby may have stopped growing or we are just calculating wrong"  I had to wait a whole week thinking that I was having a miscarriage.  The follow week, the baby was HUGE and strong HB.   I'm 19 weeks today so hang in there.  See what the  U/S on Friday brings and until then, just think about the little bugger playing tricks on you.
  • With this pregnancy they were two weeks off. They thought I was further along, so like pps have said "Hang in there!!" Sending thoughts and prayers your way.
  • I fully understand the worry, but it is all so early and every baby develops and grows differently. I've never had an u/s that early so I can't help with seeing the heartbeat. I know that at my 7, 7.5 and 8 week ultrasounds we saw the heartbeat every time.

We conceived via IVF, and they wouldn't even do an u/s until I was 8 weeks, because they wait to make sure there's a heartbeat before handing me off to the OB.  They feel like 8 weeks is the magic number for seeing the HB.
  • Thanks all.  I go for another u/a first thing tomorrow AM.  Crossing my fingers...and toes....xo

I'm late to this thread but that did happen to me.  I did IVF so we knew exactly how far along the baby should be - and it didn't match up so my doctor was VERY negative.  Here's what happened.

    5 weeks- sac only

6 weeks- sac and fetal pole - no HB

6 weeks, 5 days-  no HB - she said it was over and I should think about d & c and sent me for a "viability" test - basically an u/s to confirm no HB

7 weeks, 4 days (the viability test)- strong HB at 152 bpm.  You've never seen anyone cry so much- I was so happy.

I'm now 27 weeks.  I hope you have the same outcome!

3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again
