Did your DC have a 2 year old Dr appt?

Curious.  We just did our 18 month appt at 21 months because of ear infections that delayed it.  DD is doing great.  Growing more than I thought.  Weight is hanging out stable because of activity.   Pedi said that her development with language and motor skills was so good that she does not need to see her again until she is 2.5 years old.  We asked tons of questions, but it makes me nervous to not go back for that long.  Is this the norm?  That will be next February.  Yikes.  No more shots until she is 5.  Good thing, but wow.  I was prepared for at least going at 2 and then 2.5.  WDYT?  Should we take her again at some point or just go when she is ill?

  • Justin had well visits at 1, 2, 4, 6, 9 months; 1 year, 18 months, and 2 years.  His next well visit is 3 years, then 4 then 5.

I want to say that he had vaccines at every visit except 1 month and 9 months.  He will NOT get any at his next couple.  I would say if your pedi is comfortable with waiting and she's not behind on vaccines, you're doing OK.

  • We just did the 2-year appointment. Honestly, it was a little pointless. She got weighed and measured and the pedi asked us about language and motor skills. She wanted to see her walk, but the stubborn kid plopped herself on the floor and refused. No vaccines, and honestly, we didn't have any questions other than what kind of milk to give her now. I would skip it. Chances are you'll have a sick appointment before 2.5 anyway.

  • I know that after the 2 year check up it's once a year after that.  We got mixed up with Ryleigh's and she had her 2 or 3 year appt. in October (her birthday is March) so from then on we've always had to do her check-ups in Oct/Nov because my insurance only allows well visits once a year once they are 2.  So, depending on your insurance if you go in February next year all of her check-ups may end up being around that time of year.  Just something to look into!

  • If her development is on track and she is up-to-date on vaccines, I would say you are fine to wait. Chances are you will have a sick visit or two in the interim.

  • We go to the same pedi as sistrkate so Logan's schedule is the same as Justin's.  We will have a 2 year appt, but Logan he hasn't been seen since his 18 month visit.  If your pedi doesn't think she needs to be seen, I wouldn't worry about it, and of course you can always call them if you have any questions/concerns.

  • We had well child checks at 2 and 3, but not at 2.5.

  • we had one at 2.5 because I did Sawyers 2 month the same day. Totally pointless.

I agree with PP, she's doing great, it's fine to wait! ( lol. I rhymed.)

  • We see a family practioner instead of a pedi and we did an 18 months and then did not need to come back until 3 years.

I think the only thing on my pedi's to do list at 2 is a shot, check language development, and his head circumference (been monitored closely since birth since it is off the charts).  If she's going in at 2.5 for a shot, and her language development is fine, I'd be ok with it.  Besides, chances are good you'll be seen for something between now and then (even though I know you'd rather not deal with it!)
  • We will be going in for a 2 year appt.  This is terrible...but I don't remember us having an 18 month appt...but we have been in and out of the doc with ill visits that it all kind of runs together....lol
