1st Trimester

2nd time Mom's, opinion's please...

My sitter canceled for tomorrow.  I have an OB appointment that I didn't want to drag DS to.  Would you cancel your appointment or just bring DS along.  He's 14 months.

Re: 2nd time Mom's, opinion's please...

  • Is it your first apt?  If you need a US, then I wouldn't unless you have DH with you.

  • I took DS (19mos) to my first apt. just call and make sure they have room for a stroller.

I will say though I don't know if I will do it again unless absolutely necessary, he screamed through the internal ultrasound, pap, and my blood being drawn.  The nurses were so sweet and said boys tend to get upset when someone is working on their mom.  The office was very helpful and understanding.  I was still embarrassed.

  • I'd bring him. I'm pretty sure DD will be coming to most of my appointments.

  • How active is he?  I wouldn't have brought dd with me at 14 months because she would have been running all over the place!  If he's likely to sit in a stroller and be occupided, I guess it would be alright, though!
  • I'd take him with you. I've brought ds to an u/s a few months ago and the office staff and nurses offered to play with him for a few minutes
  • It's my first appointment.  No u/s b/c I know the date of my LMP.  I guess I`ll just bring him.

  • I brought DD to all of my appts when I was pregnant with DS.  If you have to, go for it.  Just bring a lot of snacks and give them to him as soon as the doc walks in.
  • I personally couldn't because DS gets into everything and won't be happy in a stroller, but would your LO be happy in a stroller with some snacks? I would be hesitant to reschedule an OB appt., but I think LO needs to be confined.
  • I'm bringing DD to all appts unless there's something where I physicallycan't take care of her. I.e. I have an eye appt in June, and they'll make my eyes blurry so I physically can't take care of her (or drive) so DH is coming to help.

  • I'm taking my DD to all my midwife appts as it's hard to get a sitter during the middle of the day. When I go for my big u/s my dh will take the day off and come with us.

  • I would just take ds.. I would put him in a stroller though.. I had ds had my 1st appt but dh was there as well.

  • I took DD to my first appt. but she isn't mobile yet so she just sat in the stroller.  I wouldn't feel bad if you have to take him, I'm sure they get that all the time!
  • I take DS with me everywhere.  I have no sitter so I bring him and a bag full of toys.  If he starts acting up, the nurses will entertain him for a few minutes until my exam is over.

  • Not a second time mom, but I know our city has drop-in sitter centers where you can leave a child for a hour or two at any time for pretty reasonable prices.  Could be worth looking into for emergencies...although I would completely understand someone not wanting to leave their baby with a total stranger like that...

DD was at my first appointment, but I don't think I'll bring her again.  She screamed as soon as I laid down for the exam.

  • If they have to do a whole vaginal check up and US I would cancel it.

  • I'd still go, I'd just do my best to avoid bringing him in the future when there's an u/s involved.

That said, we've had to bring my DS to many of my appointments.  And when I was pregnant with DS, I brought DD to all but the first.

  • I brought my daughter to all of my appointments last pregnancy. I try to avoid bringing my kids this time around, but that's because we moved and are a lot closer to my mom who can watch them. Last time, the front desk staff was always happy to watch my daughter if there was an internal exam.

  • I will be bring my DD to all of my appts (with the exception of the ones that are 2 hours away) but it will be easier for me because:

    1. My daughter will be 2.5 by the time they start up and can entertain herself and

    2. My aunt works at the clinic so if all else fails she can go sit in her cubicle and play on the computer.

  • I would drag him along, with plenty of snacks, books, and toys. Our DSs are almost the same age!
