Hi, I was over at the December and 1st Tri board, but found out today that our baby has no heartbeat. I have a D&C scheduled for Friday. I was 9w3d today.
We had our 1st u/s last Monday after I was spotting/bleeding last weekend. I was supposed to be 8w1d, but the u/s showed 5w6d, but there was a strong heartbeat. We had another u/s scheduled for today to see the growth, and throughout the last week and a half, I had started to feel like everything was going to be okay, but the u/s tech today showed us that the baby was measuring only 6 weeks and there was no heartbeat.
I'm of course heartbroken...this is my 2nd m/c (1st was almost 10 years ago) and my DH and I were very excited to be parents. We will try again right away, but since this is my 2nd m/c I'm scared I'll never have a baby...
Any thoughts or tips on D&C? They told me to take 600 milligrams of ibuprofen and have someone drive me because they will give me anesthesia. They also explained the procedure, but is there any side effects I should know?
TIA
Re: Hi ladies
I am sorry for your loss.
You will find the girls on this board very supportive.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. The actual D&C procedure was fast and painless. I did experience some cramping after with minimal bleeding. Complete pelvic rest for 4 weeks. I was told to wait 1-3 normal cycles before ttc again.
Again, I'm sorry for your loss and I hope you are able to find comfort and support on this board.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
I can't speak to the natural, but I can tell you what my D&C was like. The D&C wasn't bad at all. I was at the hospital for about 4-5 hours (they put me under general, so I don't remember anything for the proceedure itself). Afterwards, I bled (period-like with some freakish-looking clots) for about a week, then light/spotting for about another week. HTH!
Oh, and tips for the D&C that I wish I had known. Not everyone may have had the same experience I did, so when I say "you" take it to mean "you" as if you were in my shoes. You will have to take off all your jewelry, so it's better just to leave it all at home. Take a clean pair of underwear, and if you have a favorite brand of pad, take that too. The pad they give you is huge and bulky (think restroom dispenser type). While in recovery, lay down for awhile. Don't try to get/sit up too quickly, or you may find yourself fainting and throwing up (I learned that one from experience). They will offer you something to drink because your mouth is probably going to be super dry. Get the ginger ale. Water just added to the upset stomach.

So sorry for your loss. The night before my D&C was pretty rough, lots of cramping and some bleeding (due to the dialation of my cervix from the laminary(sp?))
The D&C was pretty quick & painless and afterwards my recovery was quick, I had no cramps and minimal bleeding(light for 2-3 days and then spotting for like a week)
I did spike a fever 2 days after and they put me on antibiotics, but even that wasn't too bad. I actually think I was unlucky enough to catch the stomach virus going around, but they put me on the antibiotics to be safe.
I hope the D&C is quick and the recovery is as physically painless as possible. Good luck and again so sorry for your loss.

Same here. I just had a D&C on Monday. I have had a "hangover" feeling for a couple days but it is passing. Doctor advised us to wait 3 months before TTC again.
