Babies: 0 - 3 Months

how many outfits did you and baby need at labor and delivery?

I am packing my hospital bag right now and trying to decide which clothes to pack.  I have so many cute newborn clothes, but I was wondering if you just kept your babies in the outfit the hospital provided for a while.

Also, for my clothes, I don't have too many comfy clothes that fit me, I just have some yoga capris that I have been wearing a ton and a few nursing tanks.  Will this be enough?  Did you change right after you had the baby or stay in the gown for a few days?

  • We left him in the shirt they give him since it was easier for us to change him and swaddle him that way. I took two nursing tanks and two yoga pants and took a shower the day I had him (I had him super early at 12:42 am) and wore each set for the days I was there. They were comfy and it made me feel better than being in that gown. I didn't have any stitches or hemi's though and at night I just wore my nursing tank and the undies they gave me so they could check me easily.

  • I brought probably two outfits for me and that was plenty since the first day I only wore my hospital gown.  I'd say if you wanted you wouldn't need any outfits for baby - they give you socks, hats, t-shirts, etc.  But, I brought a couple of outfits so I could dress him up for visitors and an outfit for going home in as well.  HTH!

  • I kept DS in the outfil the hospital gave him. I brought 1 outfit to go home in and to take newborn pics for the hospital.

I mostly stayed in the hospital gown. I brought about2 pairs of yoga pants and a few nursing tanks.

    Good luck!!

  • Baby needed one outfit to go home in. I wore nursing tanks and yoga pants starting the day after delivery, so two? Take an extra for you though. I could have worn the hospital gown but I hated my butt hanging out every time I had to pee. I took my own undies and wore them- I hated the mesh ones.
  • I took some NB outfits but i didnt use them at all. I kept him in what the hospital gave him. As for me, I stayed in the gown for a day or so only because of the bleeding I didnt want to ruin my clothes, Then when i was allowed to shower i put on my own gown. Hope everything goes well for you!

  • I packed one outfit for LO and one outfit for me, for a going home outfit.  While in the hospital I wore gowns and my own robe over it when I had visitors and when I walked around. LO was in the outfit the hospital provided.

This. Except I never used the pants and DD was born at 12:50am.

  • We just left him the outfit the hospital gave him.  We opted to send him to the nursery so we could get some sleep so I didn't want the nursery staff to get annoyed with his outfits.   I think we did put him in an outfit once and they just bagged it up and put it in his little bin when they brought him back to us.  I figured we'd have plenty of time to dress him up when we got him home.
  • You need one to take LO home in. Lots of people stay in the hospital gown the whole time they are there. I had an unplanned C section and ended up in the hospital for 5 days. I wore my own clothes from day 2 on. made me feel better. I lived in 2 pairs of yoga pants and nursing tanks/tops. And flip flops.
  • We only needed one outfit each.  We both stayed in the hospital provided clothes until we were discharged.
It took 3 1/2 long years, but we finally got our little miracle!

  • I had a c-section so I had 2 pairs of pants and 2 tops for myself.  I wore the hospital gown the entire first day and night because of all the bleeding and the catheter.  Definitely bring your own underwear...the mesh underwear was so uncomfortable.  I wore them for about an hour and switched to my own and it was glorious.

As for baby outfits I only packed the take home one thinking the hospital would provide outfits for her but they only provided a top which we used for half a day and got tired of it so I had my mom run home and bring us about 10 outfits (spitup extras) and I was very glad she did this.

  • Just about the same as all the above. Couple pairs of yoga pants and some nursing tanks, robe and slippers. I took a shower as soon as I was moved from labor room to mother/baby room. These clothes were comfortable enough to sleep in as well as get out of bed and take a stroll to check on DS when they had to take him to the nursery for circ etc. I brought two outfits for baby 1 NB and 1 0/3 months but he stayed in the shirts/hats/socks they provide while there until pictures and go home time.

One pair of yoga pants and a long sleeved tee for me, 1 NB outfit and 1 0-3 outfit for DS to wear home.  He stayed in the clothes they provided until it was time to go and so did I.  We were only there for one night though.

  • I went into L & D on Saturday. I labored until mid-day Sunday when I had an emergency c-section. LO and I went home on Wednesday. I had him in 3 different outfits and that was plenty. He hates being swaddled so if I didn't have clothes for him he would have just been in a diaper and tee shirt. It was kind of cold in the hospital so I wanted him to have something on.

I brought several outfits that ended up not fitting. The only things that fit were a pair of sweats and a tee. I just wore the hospital gown. It was easier.

  • i stayed in the hospital gown until we left, so just a going home outfit for me.  they check you so often it's nice to just be able to lift up the bottom and be done with it.  we packed two outfits for DS-- a newborn size and a 0-3 month size-- for pictures and going home.  our hospital required him to be in their shirt and cap until we left.

  • For Charlotte I had only the going home outfit and a really warm fleece cover up since I knew it would be cold.

    For me:

Robe--I wore it during labor and afterward.

    Flip Flops--during labor and afterward

Nursing Tank-- only took 1. It got dirty, but was worth it bc less laundry when I went home

Shorts--wore after delivery when visitors came. Take a pair you can toss bc they will get gross, but it was woth it to have those instead of the gown...more comfy

Sweats and t-shirt to wear home with nursing bra (or take a nursing tank)

I did take more, but that is what I used. My shorts got so gross that I decided to wear the same ones in the hospital the whole time instead of changing them all the time. Same with the tank...that didn't get too bad but I did drip syrup on it the first morning and she spit up on it.

  • I took LO her outfit to go home in, and I took one spare shirt for me. I had her at 12:27pm and went home about 24 hours later, so I just wore the same pants and just put on a new shirt. Other than that, I just wore the robe the hospital gave me.
