We knew that we were TTC shortly after DD. We're almost finished renovating our new house. We painted DD's room Benjamin Moore Ocean Spray. It's a really bright blue that can go either way. That way if Baby #2 is a boy then they'll be able to share a room!
DD1: August 2009
DD2: December 2010
DS: August 2012
M/C 9/2013, 12/2013
DD3: October 2014 - April 2015 Miss you baby girl.
We're planning on having ds and dd share a room for a while.
Haven't decorated yet, but trying to keep the walls and upholstered furniture neutral, and do the sheets, accent pillows, etc girlie or boyish depending on if it's dd's or ds's.
My good friend has her boy and girl share a room, and they are four years apart. (They are six and two, and will have separate rooms once the two year old is better able to sleep at night. Then they will move into the bedroom on the first floor and the kids will have the upstairs rooms.)
They were surprised with the gender of the first baby, so it has a neutral teddy bear theme. It has worked out well for them so far.
My older two shared a room for about two years until we bought a bigger house. We did an Elmo & Zoe theme, which was really cute and both kids loved it.
Jumping in a little late, but DS#1 is sharing with DD. The room is white and his theme is bumble bees so the colors are yellow, green, black and white. DD's bedding is ladybug and it's red, green, black and white, so they go together. A bug theme.

My b/g twins share a room now and the room is a bright green and the theme is alphabet. It is really cute.
