travel questions - carseat & CARES harness

* do you use a carseat travel bag to check your carseat?  i recall having seen them in clear plastic bags on the luggage conveyors before - i assume the airline provides these?

* tell me your thoughts if you've used a CARES harness.  we don't travel that much, so i am trying to decide on investing in one vs. renting one vs. using one at all

    We put our car seat in a thick trash bag.... and bring an extra for the trip home...

    We LOVE the Cares harness.  We figure with 2 kiddos we will get our $$ out of it.  Honestly, it's worth every single penny not to take the car seat to the gate....

    also, the airline runs out of bags all the time.  Don't count on one...  If you want to borrow our harness to give it a try you are welcome to.  We don't need it until August.

    we bought a nylon bag that we use when we fly. the airline lost our bags once, including out car seat. luckily it was when we got home and we had the car with the 2nd carseat installed parked or it would have been a nightmare. due to this, i will rarely ever check a carseat with the luggage. we gate check our seat (this is made much easier by the fact that we have a GoGoKidz trolley)

    love the cares harness. even if it isn't 100% secure as a carseat, it has always given Truitt the feeling that he is locked and loaded.
