Throat-punch SIL Part II...

And I'm spending a weekend with her next month.  Should be awkward.  Here's Part II...

 

SIL:  I know i shoudl do it, but I am scared because she will be completely down for the surgery and I will not be able to be with here, an as a mom that kills me, that's why I said i am confused, I know its the right thing but am very scared!!! i know they are very common but still scares me!!

ME:  I get it, it's scary. But see it from my perspective, it's a VERY small thing, and trust me, if I can get through watching both of my boys die in my arms, you can seriously get through a 10 minute surgery that will help her feel better. I'm sorry to sound mean, but you should really put things in perspective. They could be a whole lot worse. You have a healthy daughter who needs a MINOR thing done. I don't ever wish anyone to have sick children, but think of the ones who have terminal illnesses, this is just a tiny bump in the road. I promise, she will be FINE. I'm sure you have a great doctor.

    Your response is perfect.  I hope that helps her with getting some perspective.  If it doesn't then I'm getting in line for the throat punch too.

    I get it, I was scared before DS had his tubes too.  But, if they need tubes, it means they're in pain and they aren't hearing well.  That was all I needed to hear to do it.  I wouldn't make my child need speech therapy and delay his speech b/c I'm afraid.

    awesome reply i wish i had my witts about me like that sometimes.  hope she realizes that there are harder things to have to go through as a parent and that her daughter will be in more than capable hands the whole time.

    I was scared when DD had to have her teeth pulled. It should have been an easy experience, but it wasn't. I had to sit there and watch them hold her down kicking and screaming. (That's a whole different topic there.) This is something that will make the child better in the long run. I say your answer was GREAT!

    I think she's just trying to make this all about her and trying to get sympathy. JMO

    punching her in the throat is too good for her.  might I suggest a nice stamping on the throat with a stilleto?

    I think my SIL and your SIL might be related...or are at least in the same club...mine is so insensitive and complains all the time about having a baby

    My blood is seriously still boiling.  She finally stated that she's done research and is comfortable with her doctor, so at least I know she will have it done.  I think pp is right, she just wants sympathy and is an attention wh0re.
