Alabama Babies

I'm worried.

On Saturday, while K was eating in her highchair she did a "shrug" where she put her right ear to her right shoulder. I didn't think anything about it because she only did it once and it seemed like it was a "no" mannerism when she was offered some food.

Then, Saturday evening, while eating, she did it multiple times within a couple of minutes. It worried me because at first I thought it might be some kind of spasm or seizure. The movement seemed involuntary but didn't seem to bother her.

Then, last night, she did it again several times within a few minute period. It hasn't happened since.

Has anyone had this happen with DC? Is it ear related? Or teething related?

K has never had an ear infection, and she's not showing signs of congestion or a fever.  I've got an appointment with the pedi this afternoon, but I wanted to see if any of you have had a similar experience? I'm really worried.

Re: I'm worried.

  • Hmm...I am not sure if it is the same thing, but Allie has started shrugging her shoulders all the time.  Sometimes it is like she has a chill, but she will sometimes do it several times in a row.

I am not sure if it is normal or not...let me know what your pedi says.

    Allie ~ 01/26/09 ~ 7 lbs, 9 oz ~ 20.75 in. & Amelia ~ 03/16/11 ~ 8 lbs, 1 oz ~ 21 in.

  • My LO has started shaking her head back and forth as to say no. I am wondering if she is trying to stay awake or likes to make herself a little dizzy. I believe any repeatitious(sp?) action while she is this little will worry me. Hope everything is ok.

  • I just wanted to say I hope everything is okay.  Keep us updated.
  • I hope everything is ok! I'll say a prayer that Miss K is just fine! Keep us updated!!
  • Lydia, it's likely that she's found a new movement and repeats it because she gets a reaction from you BUT if I were you, I'd just call the Pedi's office and would speak with a nurse just in case.

In my non-medical opinion, I'd think if were a seizure then she'd do it during times other than eating in the highchair.

And BTW, Mason's now had 3 ear infections (which I suppose isn't so bad since he's 15-mos) but he's always put his fingers in his ears will rub his ears anyway; our Pedi said that it's a poor indicator of an ear infection (touching of the ears).

  • I pray it's nothing to worry about.  Keep us updated!
  • I of course cant say for sure, but it sounds like the beginning stages of an ear infection. My son would do that a lot when he ears started bothering him. At first I didnt really pay it any mind, but the screaming eventually follows. The crying that seems to never end. It could be her learning a new movement, but it could be an ear infection. I would get it checked out just to be sure. The ear infections cause them so much pain.
