I've always loved the name Ruby and it's a family name. DH and I are thinking about using it but I need help with a couple things first:
A) Is it becoming too popular/trendy?
and
What would you use for a middle name? I'm thinking something simple and classic, 1 or 2 syllables.
Re: What do you think about Ruby?
nms (i think the show max & ruby ruined it for me) but i am jealous and would love to use a family name (just dont have any dh and i agree on)
go to nameberry.com , you can narrow names down by popularity, style (being classic, vintage etc), origin
I like Ruby. I do feel it's getting up there, but not as quickly as Lucy. Family names get more pull around here, and I'd avoid Ann/Anne or Grace for a middle name.
Oh, and this...

I love the name Ruby. It is the only name DH and I can agree on for our imaginary baby.
I like Ruby Marie, Ruby Lynn or Ruby Lorraine. Those are all family names so you may not like them.

There is a woman at work named Ruby... I would never name my child Ruby after meeting her.
However, if I had never met the woman and it was a family name I'd be partial to using it as a middle name.
Yep, makes me think of a dog.

This. Our friends have a dog named Ruby.
The only Ruby I know is a sweet old lady, I think it would be really cute on a little girl. I think it is part of the trend of old names coming back in style, but that isn't a bad trend IMO, as most of the old names are really beautiful and seem timeless to me.
I like:
Ruby Jane
Ruby Elizabeth
Ruby Paige
I'd use it only as a mn.
It's hard to imagine a grown-up Ruby as a doctor or in some other serious profession. Ruby, Diamond, Jade, etc are difficult to take seriously as an adult imo.
I think Ruby is cute and not super trendy... yet.
