1st Trimester

Can you help me understand m/s?

I get that the title sounds stupid, but I'm wondering:

I'm pretty nauseas all the time, but I'm one of those people that has a delicate stomach when not preggo.

In normal life, I'm nauseas, I puke, I feel better.

Does that same scenario fly with m/s for you?  I could pretty easily go in the bathroom and just LOOK at the toilet and puke, but I'm afraid that I'm not going to feel any better after doing so.  Does it help to actually vomit, or do you just feel this way after the fact too?

Re: Can you help me understand m/s?

  • I haven't reached puking with this one.  But when I was pregnant with DD, puking didn't help at all.  I would feel better for about .2 seconds and the queasy feeling came right back.  It sucked.

  • For me it was a yes and not. I only vomited twice, but it was the nausea that was really bad. The times I did puke I did feel better, but it was short lived until the nausea kicked back in.

Either way its no fun. Hope you feel better soon.

  • I've said to DH many times "I wish I would just puke so I'll feel better afterwords!"

I've felt sick plenty, but never actually puked. Everytime I got the flu I would feel slightly better after I vomited. I felt like this would be the same. I will never know it that is true, but I hear it isn't. I'm just glad I guess that I never got to the vomiting point.

  • It never helped me. M/S isn't like being hungover - once you puke you don't get it out of your system. I used to just throw up until there wasn't anything left and then dry heave at my desk since there wasn't any point locking myself in the bathroom at work all day just to keep feeling lousy.

Ugh, sorry to sound like such a downer. This time has been much better! Hopefully it will be over soon!

  • I was feeling queasy off an on and it only went away after I puked.  And even tho I can hold it till I reach a toliet, I also could just look at it and puke (not prior to pregnancy, but lately).

Or just cough in the stall...but I did feel way better once I was able to.

  • Thanks ladies.

I guess puking isn't the cure to m/s after all!

If it's not going to help me feel better (at least not for very long) I guess I'll just count my blessings that I'm not actually at the vomiting and getting dehydrated stage.

  • Nope I still don't feel better after I puke.

  • I never felt better after puking.  It was perma-queasy, and absolutely zero appetite.
  • I had Hypermesis with my 1st. 24/7, projectile-vomiting, praying to God that SOMETHING would stay down, until around 13 weeks. Zofran was the only thing that worked, but that kept the puking to a 1 or 2 times-a day incidence, instead of the entire time. I lost close to 10 lbs.

It  was horrible and something that I was fully prepared to deal with this time around, but thankfully, it's not the case this time. I get nauseous first thing in the morning, usually only puke once and then I'm good to go for the rest of the day.

It's different for everyone. It can come late, end early, stick around your entire pregnancy.

  • I have not found puking to help.  Good luck.  I hope everyone starts to feel better soon.
