2nd Trimester

N(really)BR: fussy vent

So, for the last month, possibly because of the weather, our kitchen keeps getting invaded by ants.  There is nothing out for them but they're dancing all along the side of the fridge.  For weeks now, DH has said he will get caulk and caulk where he thinks they are coming in.  (He has poured glue in the crack behind the fridge against the wall where the baseboard isn't flush with the wall, but it isn't working.)  Weeks now.

So this morning, with DH already gone at work, I was pissed to find the ant-dance again, all into the freezer section (not inside, since it seals) and along the fridge again, so I grabbed the bottle of "Oxy Orange" or whatever it is that is non-toxic (so if the cats lick it they're ok) but still kills the ants.  I spray and spray along the fridge and also the floor in front of the fridge where I see them going, then put the bottle back on the counter.

Then I see that the ants have gone over to the cat food (about 5 feet away) so I go to grab the spray bottle again, and slip and slide over to the sink, crashing into it hard, because (stupid me,) the floor is now slick where I sprayed it about 30 seconds earlier.

I'm ok, I didn't fall down, I braced myself with my arm not my belly, but seriously, DH has 24 hours to get the caulk and take care of the ants before he will find himself caulked to the pillow.

  • I kind of know how you feel. We got a new dishwasher in January and after DH installed it, he left the bottom cover off. I've been asking him for months to put it back on because dirt and food particles and dog hair are getting trapped underneath. He still hasn't done it and it is driving me crazy!
  • Ugh, my DH is the king of "I'll take care of it later" and then never does.  So annoying.  Glad you're ok though.  Bugs of any kind in the home are so gross!

  • We have this problem every year. My dad bought these ant traps at home depot and they work wonders. The way they work is they don't die right then and there, they actually carry the food back to the colony and basically kills all of them including the queen.

So that way if your DH doesn't caulk up the crack he and his pillow (lol that's too funny) can go to home depot for these.

  • I am so glad that other DH are like mine. For a while there all i read was posts about how sweet and helpful DH has been. I have a box of stuff i have bought for DH to fix around the house. The box has been sitting there for almost 3 months. THe tasks range from reacaulking the tub where he half did it the first time, replacing a cracked window that is letting my precious air out and the big one......... fixing my dryer vent so it will quit turning my laundry room into a sauna... I like the your idea of caulking DH to the pillow lol

  • white vinegar is awesome at keeping ants away.  just a thought if hubby continues to put off caulking.

Currently going through our second deployment. Can't wait for Zoe to meet her daddy!

  • ooh, thank you for the link!  my office is right near a huge shopping complex so I will pop over to HD at lunch and get the ant traps either way, since even if DH caulks it, they could find another way in. (Like, a few show up every so often in the upstairs bathroom.  I think they are coming in through the pipes!)

but yes...I am trying to be patient with DH but he is a major procrastinator for things that he says he will do.  I did not ask him to take care of the ants, he said he would, and yet, weeks go by, nothing.

Likewise (and this one I just want to throw things, too), we bought a condo in February.  Moving in 2/9, we discovered the garage door got warped by recent rain (fine at inspection, useless when we moved in) and we needed it replaced.  DH set it up with a local company, and had the guy out to do the estimate, but they failed to note that since our condo's garage is not attached to our unit, we have no power there.  So when they sent out a guy, he couldn't install it. DH was out, I was there, so I had to send the guy away and he was a total a$$hole to me, and I had to keep telling him, I wasn't there at the estimate, my DH will call the company and work it out, etc.

The company has failed to show up twice after that at their appointed times after DH "straightened it out" with them, but last it was left, DH was supposed to call them back to talk to the owner.  That was a month ago.  We still can't use our garage.

And it needs to be done ASAP now because I need to get cracking on the nursery, and a lot of boxes that are in there will end up in the garage, but we need to be able to get into the garage safely (without the door falling on me) to do so.

DH has been SUPER caught up in work stuff but that's wrapping up, so hopefully he can deal with it THIS month.  Otherwise, I am considering taking all his video games (that he is always playing when I get home instead of doing something useful) and putting them outside so I can use the game storage for the things I need out of the nursery. And maybe I'll caulk a controller to his hand, if I feel like it.
