Babies: 9 - 12 Months

10m + non-clappers/wavers

Any other kids in this age range not clapping or waving? Maybe my kid just isn't into it but he will not clap and has only waved once (and I didn't see it, DH did). He's all about stacking blocks and standing on his own now but no clapping or waving.

Re: 10m + non-clappers/wavers

  • No clapping, no waving, no standing on her own, no stacking blocks.

  • He clapped for a week-end a couple months ago and hasn't since.

He's did the same with waving, but he will wave sporadically.

  • I've got two clappers, but no wavers. I though A-Train waved earlier on a couple of times, but I guess it was a fluke because he doesn't do it anymore. L-Dawg just holds his hand up like he wants to wave, but doesn't.
  • My DD will be 10 months on Sun. She can clap, but she doesn't wave, stand or stack blocks. DS didn't clap for a long time either. He was too busy checking everything out. DD is a bit more social.

Ava is our clapper.  But doesnt do anything else you mentioned.  And well, neither does Lauryn.  Looks like I need to work with them more.

  • Dillon claps, gives high fives, walks well holding my finger, and stands well.

He doesn't point, he's only waved once and he doesn't stack blocks.

  • Tillie waves about half of the time, but no clapping and definitely no stacking blocks or standing independently.

  • Sebastian just started clapping the other day right before he turned 13 months.  Sometimes he waves, I think it just depends on his mood.

  • Thanks ladies. I will try not to obsess over the waving/clapping thing. He also hasn't started saying any real words either but I remind myself that boys often talk later to make myself feel better.

Sebastian was an early mover. They tend to talk later because they are concentrating on the motor stuff.

Talk to GrinsnGiggles. Her Ryan is the same way.

    I have an L-Dawg.
  • DS doesn't wave but he does clap.  If you wave bye bye to him, he'll clap.  No babbling either.  Squealing, yes, but no babbling.
  • My poor mom, last time she was here she kept trying to get him to wave at her but he wouldn't. He definitely has his own mind.

Isn't it funny how every baby develops in pretty  much the same order but not even close on time-frame?

  • Moses claps, but I don't know if he waves. He will hold his hand up when he sees someone, but he doesn't move it back and forth, so I'm not sure.

  • clapping, standing, walking(!)

    Not waving or stacking blocks.

  • Brooks waves (about 80% of the time we try for it and not on his own yet).  He does not clap.  He does pull up and has started letting go and standing for 5 seconds, and the idea of him stacking blocks is amazing to me-  destruction sure, creation- no.

Yeah, we were shocked over that. He was babyzilla with blocks until last week. He started with two and he's stacked up to five. He isn't always successful though.
