I guess I should start doing more of this? Are you and if so, are you doing anything more than just doing it yourself and hoping they copy at some point?
We practice. I do it a couple of times then I take his hands and do it. Every time I do I say the word loud and clear. He hasn't picked up on how to do it himself yet though.
S started clapping around 6 months, we only did patty-cake, I never TRIED to teach her clapping, and she will wave randomly, not purposefully, like, I know she doesn't relate that to leaving yet. But I did practice that with her a lot, started around 6 months as well.

We started clapping about a month ago. Now, if I say "clap, clap" she'll do it. Usually I'll do it when we hear music or we're happy about something ("yay! clap, clap!")...
My DD just started clapping last week. She's been banging blocks together for a while and just started clapping on her own. She is pretty impressed with herself when she does it. She doesn't wave, though. I try to teach her by waving in a mirror, but she just laughs at me.
I always give DS a high five when he does something good, we clap to music (I started with clapping his hands for him), and we wave hello and goodbye anytime someone leaves or we leave. He is now doing it by himself most of the time.?
she does do other moves - her latest is to punch her chest like a gorilla, lol. And she does all these hand circles. Shes been late to sit up a lot and been reluctant to do stuff with her hands/arms until recently so we are catching up!
Re: Teaching clapping and waving?
J is more likely to copy me if we do it to music. When I put kiddie music on he loves to clap and wave his hands.
