One of my students just said this to me. I told her definitely was spelled with 1 "f" not 2. She said she meant to write it that way b/c it makes her paper unique.
huh? There is no debate. Definitely is definitely spelled d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y.
June 3rd, you are too far away.

Best comeback EVER!
As a teacher, I know how annoying those things can be. But you have to admit- still pretty funny, lol.
We call my little cousin "Ramen", as in ramen noodles because he eats them so much. Well his teacher wasn't happy when he started writing Ramen. N. Gilmore on all his papers. We thought it was hysterical.
I love this idea.
The thing is, she is in my regular English class, not my remedial class. My remedial class gets that if you spell something wrong, it is wrong. She thinks everything is debatable. Her mother is her bff, so I don't need to explain that one to you. **
**She has the "I'd rather you drink at my house so I know where you are" kind of mom.**
::lurking from 3-6:: hope you don't mind
But I just wanted to comment that I feel like it is so sad that it seems that kids don't know how to spell at all anymore because of their texting slang. My best friend's daughter who is a very bright girl always texts me and says things like "heyy how aree youuuuu?" I always think that I know she knows how to spell the words correctly NOW but when does it become that she just starts remembering that that is the way they are spelled? I think it is sad!
it is sad- I would have students write u instead of you in responses and not even realize it

I teach HS.
Kids seriously turned in papers with "txt" spelling. I can handle grammatical errors and normal mistakes, but text-writing is beyond me.
