Eating seriously healthy food is not as difficult as it seems... like when I buy stuff I read every label. Dont buy anything that says enriched flour on it. They suck all the nutrients out of it. And it leaves you feeling hungry quicker. You want whole wheat flour. It gives you energy longer. You dont feel hungry so quick so in the long run you end up eating less and being healthy for it. Buy lots of fresh fruits and veggies. When you buy canned fruits make sure it is canned in juice or water stay away from the stuff canned in syrup. Bulk aisles (the area where you bag your own dried goods) are amazing. At my local grocery store I can get Whole Wheat Unbleached Flour for .38 a pound. Buy dried beans and brown rice. When you buy meat you can ease yourself and family into the switch of buying and eating ground turkey instead of ground beef. Get turkey bacon instead of regular bacon. If a recipe calls for sausage I buy light turkey smoked sausage. Its little subtle changes that make a huge difference. IF you want to make an example for you children eat the healthy stuff that you want them eating too. Like I know some parents who buy their child %100 whole wheat bread but buy the white bread for themselves.. like I said, eat what you want your children to grow up eating. They and you will be better off for it. Learn and research what to stay away from on labels. You dont need to go all organic either to be healthy, but certain preservatives are dangerous like nitrites... known to cause colon cancer. So google what to watch out for when reading labels. I hope I helped. And even if your not doing the next "fad" losing weight scheme... you will be better off for eating healthier and even just walking a few blocks or so every day, if you dont yet have motivation to exercise. And motivation comes a long way when you find someone who you can also motivate to exercise with you and vise versa. Work together on motivating exercise and eating healthy. I would say use a food pyramid... but i used to just stare at that blankly and then go back to eating junk. Its just knowledge that is power. Learning and reading and acting on it... looking at a food pyramid is one thing, but most people have a hard time using it. Its just a picture. Its not that informational if ya ask me.
Also dont drink much soda. A good change to that is seltzer water and juice. Iced tea made in an Iced tea maker... way healthier than the instant stuff, because you use real tea or tea bags to brew it, quicker than sun tea and quicker than boiling and refrigerating. And iced tea makers are cheap at wal mart. I use mine all the time. And the one thing that is ultimately always healthy to drink is water. And a tip dont drink slim fast unless you are definitely exercising and following their "diet" tips with that cause you WILL gain weight not lose it, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE NOT EXERCISING WHILE REGULARLY DRINKING IT. But I really dont recommend the slim fast diet to begin with. Their is a lot of sugar and calories involved.
And if you are eating healthy and exercising, you dont need a "magic shake" to lose weight.

this is the BEST beans and rice recipe ever. Just cook it until the hamhock starts to fall apart. It could take between two and four hours. But its worth it. You can eat it the way it is when its done or you can drizzle a lil hot sauce on top of it but it is amazing. Use brown rice instead of white rice for the better health benefit. And when you buy the smoked sausage for it get turkey smoked sausage. I get light turkey smoked sausage but Im sure just turkey smoked sausage would work and taste good too. Also another good tip is if you always find yourself in a huge rush and having to just pop tv dinners in the microwave or do things a quick unhealthy way... when you do have a moment... cook a plethora of healthy dinners/meals or meal staples and freeze them so they are ready to microwave or pop in the oven. That way you know your family is still getting proper nutrition in a rush. And for snacks you can buy dried fruit in your local grocery stores bulk food aisle. They are healthy and taste almost like candy.
