1st Trimester

I couldn't do it.

I sent DH out to get me some prune juice along with some other stuff to *cough* fix my problem. I've never had prune juice before and I just figured out why it isn't a transparent bottle. Yeah, I'm not drinking something that brown, that reminds me of something else brown that I'm having an issue with.

I poured it in a glass and DH walks away saying "I can't even watch this!" Umm, thanks for the encouragement DH.

Re: I couldn't do it.

  • Maybe try eating prunes instead of the juice? They may not be much better, but I think I had them when I was younger and actually kind of liked them.

  • Drink it very cold and get a straw. It's not that bad.

  • prunes are much better, they are sweet from what I remember.

  • Try grapes instead! ?They totally work for me. ?I try to eat them at least twice a day.
  • I'm just praying that this is a 1st tri symptom that will go away soon. ::Fingers Crossed::

And please, no one burst my bubble by telling me otherwise!

  • I am in the same boat as you.  The nurse told me to take some Miralax...let's just say it isn't working.  I guess I will be making a phone call again to the nurse tomorrow...this is one phone call I will not like.  PRAY FOR ME.
  • My grandmother microwaves it. I mean, she's 85 so I guess you do that at a certain point. The thought of it cold makes me sick, and to think she is drinking it hot is even more disgusting.

Yeah, I've been using Benefiber for at least a week now. Just isn't working.

  • Dried apricots seem to do the trick for me.  Prune, oh excuse me, dried plums are much better than the juice.
  • Mix it with apple juice and/or hold your nose while you drink it - that's what I had to do!

  • Prunes really are good!  If you're skeptical try buying the Sunsweet Ones (they're individually wrapped.)  I just buy a bigger bag of them & keep them in the fridge.  I eat 2-3 a couple of times a day.  Works for me (except I've been having the opposite problem from you for the last few days.  Bummer!)

  • I was so constipated during my first tri with my son that I had my husband get the "lemon essence" prunes, ate one and barfed. My m/s was much worse that time. I didn't really get constipated at all this time around. When I did get a little constipated I ate Frosted Mini Wheats for breakfast and drank tons of water. That fixed it. If you do drink the prune juice just hold your nose and chug ;)
  • Just think "manual extraction" and you should be able to find the courage to do it! Wink

  • I highly reccomend Fibercon (2 pills/day) and fiber one bars.  Just watch out the fiber one bars can give you stinky stinky toots! GL

  • Can you take it in a shot glass?

    :)

For real, get prunes.  They are delicious.  I ate 4-5 a day in early pregnancy, 2-3 after week 8, and I've weaned off of them now.  When I ate them, I'd drink 2 very large glasses of water as well.  Always worked in about 5-10 hours.

  • Get FiberOne cereal. They make a few varities. Eat it for breakfast, put some in your yogurt, sneak it in wherever you can. Each serving has about 50% of your daily fiber intake, so it should help. Good luck!

Baby food prunes are actually kinda sweet. If you mix them in with some applesauce it would probably be pretty good.

    Good Luck

  • This is really gross but I will tell you anyway... so after ds was born I was having a major "issue" going.. as in it had been almost a week ( i had a c section).. dh aunt was staying with us to help with the baby( she is a labor and delivery nurse) she recommened prune juice with a bit of melted butter.. told you it was gross lol.. it did work though!! I was desperate as the ob was going to have to intervine if it had been another day..

So I was loving the FiberOne bars as well until a fellow bump told me her Dr told her to stay away from these bars because they contain "chicory root" which is a no no when pregnant.

  • Haha, when I was in the hospital after ds was born. I made DH go down to the fridge and bring me back prune juice like it was water..I drank it really cold through a straw and it wasn't too bad. It sure did work though :)  I don't know how though I would stomach it now with all the queasy feelings! Good luck!

fiber one cereals work wonders.  it does give you gas but it helps.  try the fiber one w/ honey clusters and it's actually pretty good!  it has 51% of your daily fiber.

    GL!
