When I bought my infant car seat, I mistakenly thought that I wouldn't want to carry my baby around once he weighed more than 22 pounds so I bought the smaller infant carrier. Now at 28.5 inches and 19 pounds, Lucas is busting out of his carrier and I need to get him into a convertible car seat.
What features do you like? or wish your car seat had? Obviously I need one that will ride backwards since Lucas isn't even 7 months old yet. If you love your car seat or hate your car seat, tell me what you have and why you love/hate it. TIA!
Re: Convertible Car Seat Recs
I have the britax boulevard and I love love love it.
The latch system is great, it took literally 2 minutes to install is it is rock solid and in perfect position RF.
It has a no-rethread shoulder strap which is great and it has an adjustable head rest.
The extra head flaps for side impact protection make great pillows for Jack when he's sleepy.
The fabric is nice and soft and feels thick...some of the other carseats I looked at seemed so thin. One of the other carseats I saw at BRU I hated because the cover kept slipping off the side of it.
The clip on the straps is sturdy and easy to use.
I like the colors, I have the onyx in my car and the huntington in the truck.
Cons:
The clip/strap inbetween Jack's legs seems a little short, but it's not a problem. As he gets older it may become more of an issue.
I bought my seats at www.morebabycarseats.com for $495 total for both which is not too bad for 2 boulevards.
In DHs four door civic, we have an evenflo triumph. It's up pretty high and there isn't much space to get DD out of the car. Aside from that, we really like it and DD is is nice and comfy in there. It's harder to adjust the straps for rear facing because the dial gets crammed into the back of the seat.
We just put a first years true fit in my four door accent. It doesn't sit as high and is easier to get her in and out. However, DH needs to adjust it for us because she fell asleep and her head is slumping forward. Once that is fixed, I'm pretty positive it will be my favorite. For rear facing it's also easier to adjust the straps as there is one strap to pull to tighten and it can be pulled above the foot of the seat.
We have a Britax Marathon. I drive a Malibu. The passenger seat can't be all the way back, but it's one setting from it. I would say it probably wouldn't fit in a two door car, but it fits fine in my midsize-to-smallish car.
I LOVE it. Once I read the directions carefully and got my tether attached to the floor, the seat is perfectly level and doesn't move an inch. It's a fabulous seat. Britax gets the "expensive" label quite often, but if you watch Albee Baby or Diapers.com, they go on closeout quite often. Ours was $160ish shipped, which was pretty darn close to the other popular seats. For ease of install, I'll gladly pay $20 more (at that price).
