Babies: 9 - 12 Months

I feel like I am feeding DS too much formula & not enough solids

Back story - DS had diarrhea when he was a little over 6 months so I stopped solids in case it was the solids giving him diarrhea. At 7 months, he was sick - throwing up and coughing real bad. I waited until DS was closer to 8 months before starting solids again.

DS had three meals today for the first time since he was 6 months. I feel like he isn't eating enough solids. I feel like he is going to be on formula forever and will never get used to solids and table food.

I know that we have a long way to go before even thinking about weaning off formula but when and how do I know it's time to give him less formula and more food? Will it just happen as time goes on or do I have to teach him to eat less formula?

DS has his 9 month appointment on the 20th so obviously I will bring up my concerns to his pediatrician at the appointment.

ETA: DS eats 6 - 7 bottles a day. 6 oz every 3 hours just about.

  • According to wholesomebabyfoods.com, between 6-8 months a baby should be drinking between 24-37oz of formula a day.  It seems like he's on the high end of that so you may be able to cut back a little, but if he is eating 3 meals + that much formula and not acting overly full I am sure it's fine.  Just keep doing the 3 meals and if he gets too full he won't take a whole bottle.

  • Hannah too. She's been refusing a lot her solids lately.  My baby sitter said it's a phase but I'm still going to bring it up with the doctor.
