a little of both... but my DS prefers being on my chest versus the playmat. Basically on the mat I just wave rattles and stuffed animals by his head and cheer him on when he pushes his head and/or body up
For now, most of her tummy time is on my chest but I have started using the playmat and Boppy occasionally. I remember with DD1 that it took some time for her to tolerate tummy time on those -- and the Boppy was easier than the playmat -- so I didn't use them consistently until after she was two months old.

Ugh I am so bad about tummy time, but Alexandra is SO strong and is always rearing back and moving her head when we hold her face-to-chest.
PS I am also really bad about vitamin D drops
I'm so bad too. I feel bad about it. But she does the same thing when she's face to chest. LOL! I feel really bad when she starts screaming when I have her on her tummy. So I pick her up and end it. LOL!
We bought a tummy time mat and as soon as he is on his tummy he SCREAMS. I gave up on using the mat. Now he just stays on my chest and raises his head.
