tooth brushing confession

DS now has 5 teeth and once his first bottom teeth came through, I started brushing them once or twice a day.  But, he always falls asleep drinking a bottle at night so I brush them BEFORE his last bottle...  I know - not the way it should work.  But, I don't really know the best way to break this habit since eating is always what gets him sleepy.

What do you do?

  • I "brush" his teeth/gums in the bath with the cloth wrapped around my finger.

Mom, why are you washing my feed in the sink?!

  • I don't really "brush" them, I let him play and chew on his toothbrush every day, usually in the afternoon.  He nurses right before going to sleep and nurses (usually) twice in the middle of the night.  I should probably get him used to brushing at bedtime, but when bedtime comes there's no way he'll sit through teeth brushing.

DD falls asleep while having her last bottle also. I know I need to break this habit, but I am not sure how to.

  • I brush his teeth/gums during his bath.  He takes a bottle afterwards (right before bed), but that's ok.  I think as long as you do it...it shouldn't matter when.
