I am losing my job and my last day is June 11. I just asked when my insurance will be cancelled and she said June 11. I am confused because we get paid on June 11 and they are still going to take money out of my account for benefits that I will not be able to use past that day. Is this how it usually works or is my job just stupid? Thanks.

Re: Anyone know anything about health insurance?
if your payroll deduction is behind, it may be the case, that it should be deducted.
it is pretty crazy though that your coverage would end mid-month. every insurance company i've ever had used calendar months.
Typically you have it through the end of the month, but maybe your employer deducts weekly or something?
You will be eligible for cobra... and with new laws your previous employer is responsible to pay at least some of it. I'm not sure the specifics, but check with HR and I'm sure they can help you.
Sorry to hear about your job =(
definitely check about cobra. you should be eligible for it (if your employer has that type of coverage)...but some don't, and some employers like mine don't help pay for it because it's not a group plan but an individual plan.
and for the coverage dates, it depends on what day your effective date was. if the effective date was the middle of the month then yes it would end middle of the month. if your effective date was the beginning of the month then you would have coverage through the end of the month
eta: is your employer going out of business or was your position cut. that would also make a difference for coverage.
In my bag
d90
50mm f/1.2 * 28-85mm (Macro) f/3.5-4.5 * 70-300mm f/3.5-4.5
Opteka Fisheye Adapter * Lightscoop
I can get covered under my husbands insurance so I do not need to worry about Cobra. Thanks goodness...it is expensive.
My effective date was the 1st. And my position is being eliminated.
