Alabama Babies

A couple of development questions

1) Aubrey is sitting up really well on her own now...hardly ever topples.  However she is not making any moves (that we see) to start to want to crawl.  When she is playing on the floor(usually sitting up) she'll reach for what she wants and if she can't get it she loses interest and reaches for something in her reach.

She also still hates being on her tummy on our floor(we have wood flooring).  Now we know she is scooting or something because she never is in the same position when she gets up from naps or from bedtime...she's a tummy sleeper (does this own her own, we put her down on her back and she flips herself over).  Also she doesn't mind being on her tummy in her crib or supervised on our bed...just hates the floor, even though we pad where she plays with quilts.

I know crawling can come later and some babies never crawl, but should I be worried that she isn't truly going for what she wants if she can't reach it?  Is she just being lazy?

Also I see lots of babies on 6-12 that are in their 7th month that are pulling up to stand.  Aubrey will be 7 months old on Friday and yeah she hasn't tried this either.  But then again other than her crib she doesn't really have anything to pull up on since she doesn't make any moves toward the coffee tables or anything.

How old was your LO when they pulled up to stand?

2) How old was your LO when they started to hold the bottle on their own?

Aubrey will sometimes put her hands on the bottle as I am feeding her but if I let it go she'll just let it drop.

Re: A couple of development questions

  • It took Abby forever to crawl. She actually pulled up before she crawled. Both were in the 8 month.

Now, I can't get her to slow down. She even took a step this weekend (nothing since) and has mastered standing up on her own. So don't worry. She will be all over the place before you know it!

As far as the bottle. Abby held her own bottle really young, but for everyone else in her daycare class they were around 7-9 months. Abby has just always been all about her food..lol!

  • Mitchell started pulling up to stand around 8 months and really crawling around 8.5 months.  However, in the beginning, he wouldn't do it on a hard floor, I think it hurt his knees.  Everytime he got to the kitchen where we have hardwoods, he would try and get on his hands and feet, rather than hands and knees.  He does it with ease now.

Aubrey will be up and at 'em in no time!

  • Jaxon started crawling 2/15 and pulled up to stand 2/17...he was 8.5m...then started standing alone at 9.5m.  He hadn't been interested much before that, and would do the same about reaching for a toy and if he couldn't get it, then go for something else.  He immediately started cruising and took a couple of steps (ONE time...can't get the child to walk to save my life).  He will basically run if he is pushing a toy or cruising around the coffee table, but if he is standing there and wants to go somewhere, he lunges forward and crawls on his hands and the bottom of his feet. Lol

He has been holding his bottle for a while, between 6-7 months.

ETA: Sounds like she is right on track to me! I worried about J too when he wasn't crawling at first.  But, the other babies I knew that were crawling, etc. had bigger siblings to chase after.  I firmly believe that makes a difference!

  • Becca started pulling up 9mo on things that were sturdy, she started holding the bottle about 7-8 mo. She hated being on her tummy but she could sit on her bottom, turn, scoot, roll for whatever she wanted. Just started crawling last week, she is 10 mo now. So she crawls, pulls up on any and everything, and will hold on to say the coffee table and walk herself around it .Sometimes she will let go and stand by herself for a few seconds. I was in no hurry for the crawling/walking b/c I know she will be a handful. I do like her being able to hold the bottle.

same here.  he did not start "traditionally" crawling until 9 months exactly, and he scooted around the floor on his belly before that.

he can hold a bottle, but he just plays with it.  I have to keep a hand on it to keep him focused =)

  • Grace started crawling around 9 months.  She didn't start pulling up until 10 months.  She started walking 2 wks after her 1st birthday.  Grace never held her bottle.  She didn't start using a sippy until around her first birthday.  She had no interest in holding her own bottle or sippy.  Right before her first birthday she weened herself off of the bottle because she started wanting to hold it herself and drink it like a sippy.  She's been on only sippies ever since.  I think every baby is different and it sounds like Aubrey is right on track.
  • At 6 mos., Caroline was still barely sitting up on her own and had no interest in crawling.  She didn't crawl until 10 mos. and didn't even try until 9 months.  She didn't start pulling up until about 9 months.  I can't answer the question about bottles since Caroline refused them, lol!  She just may be too young to hold in on her own.

All babies do things at their own pace.  Don't pay attention to what other moms say their kids do.....most of them are rarely telling the truth anyway, lol!
