Do you eat dinner together?

We always eat dinner after DS has gone to bed that way we can spend more time with him and not making dinner and all that.

But I was wondering if we should be eating dinner as a family or if that really doesn't matter yet.

We always eat witht the three of us. I think Monk enjoys eating at the same time as us - and I am a big fan of it as well.

  • I sometomes end of feedin DS prior to our dinner.  . But usually  give DS some of my dinner (finger foods)  that way he stills the family dining experience.
  • We don't yet, we are getting home at 6 and he's in bed at 7, already eaten dinner at DC, so we want to spend the time with him. As soon as he's eating all of what we are eating (totally off purees), we will eat together.

  • We eat together, mainly because DD eats what we eat.

  • It's important to us to all eat as a family.

  • not yet.

i cook dinner while my DH puts the babies to bed (they go to bed at 630) and then we eat.  Once the kiddos start feeding themselves we'll probably start doing meals as a unit.

  • We try to eat all together, but it's tough b/c it's usually 6 by the time we start cooking, and I want him to nurse well before bed (it's one of his biggest feedings).

Since he started finger foods, though, he is more likely to eat while mimicking us so on leftover nights we def. all eat together.

Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
  • Me and DD always have breakfast and lunch together. When DH doesn't work too late we eat as a family, otherwise I'll wait and eat with him after DD has gone to bed.
  • We eat together.
  • since my first was a baby we always had dinner together. we really wanted to start this young so it was just part of our family's daily routine.

i have dinner on the table between 5:30 and 6 and all 4 of us eat together.

i sit next to the baby and feed him while i eat.

    Squirt

(this has helped me in a HUGE way. i can feed him with one hand! boon's squirt feeding spoon!)

it really is so nice. even if it is just leftovers or pb and j we all sit at the table.

  • We want to spend our time after work focusing on DS rather than trying to cook dinner so we don't cook until DS is in bed

  • we'll start eating together once he starts eating what we have for dinner.  he goes to bed at 7 now, so i'm usually starting our dinner once DH gets home & feeds Evan....that's really their only time together except for a morning bottle, so he doesn't mind.
  • Sometimes, but not very often. DH often gets home at 6:30 due to his work schedule and DD likes to eat around 5:45 so it usually doesn't work out except on the weekends.
  • We weren't when DS was 6mos.  At that point, he was on purees, so someone had to feed him.  Hard to eat while you're feeding baby :)

We do now, usually.  The baby self feeds for the most part, and we take turns watching/helping him.

  • We would like to, but it isn't happening yet.  DD goes to bed at 7pm so if she eats solids any later than 5:30 she won't eat her bedtime bottle, which she needs in order to get enough ounces of formula.

DH is home only one week every three weeks.  So yes, on the weeks he is home, I have him cook dinner so when I get home from work, we can all sit together.  And the girls are starting to eat more table food so it helps.  When I am by myself, I usually eat something after they go to bed.  Though I really should start cooking more for all of us.

  • we try to eat together most nights...but bath nights we don't b/c it is too rushed...we get home at 5:15 and the girls are in bed by 7pm the latest...
  • We always eat dinner together, Jack loves it.

  • It depends.  We really try to have DD eat with us, but more than anything we are consistent with her dinnertime at 6pm.  Sometimes it works out that one of us is preparing dinner for the both of us, while the other is feeding her.  If this is the case, then we usually eat after she goes to bed.

It is really important for us to make sure she always sits in her seat at the dinner table, this is to get her accustomed to routine.  We want her to behave when we go out to dinner. So far so good.

  • We do and it's very important to us. We cook and eat around 5:30 and DD is in bed at 7.
  • We always eat together! I want her to get use to eating as a family.

  • We eat as a family. DS bedtime routine starts after dinner.

  • We probably eat dinner together 60% of the time.  I try to have the 3 of us sit at the table and all eat at the same time.  Cedric seems to really love it.  Would love to do it all the time, just doesn't happen though.  Will have to work on it.  Then the hard part....getting my DH to turn off the tv during dinner.  It really bothers me now that we are having family dinners to have it on.  I didn't care before, but would rather have it be a family time, not just eating and watching tv.

  • I think we will start once Jack is eating what we are eating...now he screams at exactly 6pm if food is not in his mouth.  ; )

  • With all of DD#1's activities, we don't about 90% of the time. It would be nice, but it just isn't feasible.

  • Once she stopped napping during dinner time she was at the table with us.  She would get her purees right before we eat then puffs or whatever to play with as we eat.  Now she eats what we eat most nights.  She loves being at the table with all of us.  Many nights my husband doesn't eat with us when he is still at work.  I don't want to push dinner back any since my older 2 go to bed at 8:30 and I don't want them to eat then go right to bed.
  • We always eat as a family. If DS#2 has already eaten we sit him with us and give him puffs to snack on while we eat.

We eat dinner together every night.  I try to make this a priority in my house!

  • Nope...never. DS has an early bedtime of 6pm and DH doesn't get home until around 7pm. After I put DS to bed I prepare dinner and DH and I eat together.

I think eating as a family is important, but not at this point. When DS pushes back his bedtime and is still up when DH gets home, we'll eat dinner together.

  • We do for the most part. I did growing up and I wanted us as a family to do it too.
  • We always eat dinner together. I grew up this way and I wanted my kids to as well.

  • We eat with the three of us. Not only do I want us to spend time together as a family at the dinner table (something I didn't have growing up), but I don't want either DH or I to have to spend time feeding DD and then spend time feeding ourselves. Evenings are too short when you both work full time to have two separate dinners, kwim?

  • We have just started eating together. I like it and I think DS loves it too. I am with DS all day. I work part-time and DS comes with me to work. So when FI is home he spends time with him while I make dinner.

  • We do. I like the idea of her getting used to eating as a family.  I try to feed her anytime we eat.
