Baby Names

same letter sibs?

What do you think of naming children with all the same first letter? All my siblings have A names.

Our first daughter starts with a G and I am really leaning toward a G name this time both for boy and girl although I have an A name for a girl i like and a B name for a boy.

But i just have a thing for G names always have.

Re: same letter sibs?

  • It depends.  Honestly, if the kids are the same gender and their names start with the same letter, I often get them confused IRL.

  • I don't think it's a terrible idea, but I think I would rather just name my child something I really liked and wouldn't want to be limited to only names that start with a certain letter.

That said, if you have a name that you absolutely love, and they all just happen to start with the same letter, then go for it.

  • i am the oldest of 5 and we all have K names

    Exactly this.

Totally agree with this. I am Amanda and my sister's name is Amy...people got us confused ALL the time.

  • I think it just depends on the names. We considered having Logan and Luke. We decided against Luke, because another family member used it. It had nothing to do with the names starting with the same letter though. I thought they sounded great together for brothers!

My mom always mixed up our names- and none start with the same letter, so -at least imho- that wouldn't be a huge concern. I think this is a big love it/hate it thing. I personally love alliteration names & same first letter patterns, although I dunno if we'll do that.

  • It's a trend I've seen with large families. We had a family in our neighborhood growing up who had 7 kids and all of their names began with M

  • My opinion is, if it happens, it happens.  Not that big of a deal.  BUT: When you do it on purpose to be "cute" or to be like Michelle Duggar, it is annoying.

DD is Clara.  DH wanted Catherine for another girl but I don't like the matching C names so much.  DH's brother (K) and his wife gave their kids all K names on purpose and I don't think it's cute.

  • May end up doing it for a boy and a girl if that is what we wind up with. Just so happens #1 name for each sex begins with C.
  • my older brothers names both start with a J. I don't think it's a big deal unless your like the Dugger family and have 19 kids all beginning with the same letter. Thats what it gets confusing.

  • We are a blended family, and our kids just happen to start with the same lettter.  We are having our first child together (and probably our only) so we are probably going with the same letter for this one as well.  Sure sometimes there is confusion, but if you think about it, that just happens sometimes.  My grandma had ten kids and got their names mixed up all the time and they didn't start with the same letter.  That's not to mention the grandkids and great grandkids...
  • My aunt did this - Damion, Devon, Drue, Dane...she can never call the right kid to save her life. At least three of the four are out of the house, but she pretty much stutters when she talks about them. Of course, my grandma did the same thing and she didn't name her kids with the same letter....maybe motherhood just does that to you. Stick out tongue

G has a few possibilities...kind of depends on how many kids you're planning on having. 19 J's was tough.

  • No one has ever confused my name and my sister's- Alicia and Anna. Or my name and DD's name, for that matter. Weirdly, however, some people have a hard time keeping my name and my mother's straight- Maria and Anna. I have seriously been called Maria so many times in my life (and by people who don't even know my mom, just hear my name at a party once and for some reason file it away as "very Spanish sounding" and then call me Maria later).
