Babies: 0 - 3 Months

advent bottle users

I like to give my DD a bottle of BM at bedtime - for her routine.  I switched to advent but found that the top leaks - not just the baby spitting it out.  Am I doing something wrong?  does your advent bottle leak from where you screw it into the bottle?  They are expensive bottles and the cheap ones work better and dont leak?!?!

Re: advent bottle users

  • The bottle top just has to be tighten perfectly.  If you screw it on too much it will leak and not enough it will leak.  Call the Avent company and they will give you instructions to help stop the leaking.  We had that problem with the bottles when we first started using them with DD and I almost threw them all away.  I have been using them for a year plus now and have no problems and really like them.  Just make sure to check them before feeding your LO so you don't have a big mess.

mine leaked, returned them, they leaked again. I wasted BM which made me upset since I make so little. So I switched to using the Playtex drop-ins. They work well and she's less gassy.

  • I tried the advent bottle with DD1 and had the same issue. I hated it and went with something different. This time around, I am using the Playtex Dropins and those are easier.

  • the ring cannot be wet at all. same with the top of the bottle. i just make sure every part is dry and then tighten real well. they don't leak that way.

I have actually found that the complete opposite of this works for us. If you wet the nipple and ring and then assemble and put on the bottle, when you tighten it, you'll feel the nipple tighten on and then turn the ring a little more and the ring will tighten tighter over it...i dont really know how to explain it right...like when it's wet, the ring can slide a little extra and then lock into place, does this make sense at all? GL, the bottles are annoying when they leak, but work well for DD when they dont
