I might be too confining...

DD has only been on the floor in 2 rooms in our house, the living room, where her toys are and her bedroom.  She is either in my or DH's arms when we are in other rooms.  I try to keep the floors clean but with 2 dogs it is nearly impossible to keep totally clean and I am afraid of the "germs" she will pick up if I let her crawl around in other rooms.  Am I nutso??

I am a bit of a germaphob, can you tell??Embarrassed

  • yes...you are nuts. Eventually your DD will want down and then what will you do? We have 2 big dogs , one of whom drools, and try as i might, he gets drool on him, dog hair...and who knows what else. I just change his outfit and give him a bath at the end of the day.

  • I can't really say cause I don't have dogs, but I would think that she will get the dog germs somehow, might as well let her crawl around.

Am I a freak because I don't put her on the floor unless she's on a blanket?

Most of our downstairs is hardwood, and I don't want her thumping her head on the hardwood (sometimes she does that when she rolls from belly to back), but even on the carpet, I put down a blanket first.

I do too, but she crawls off within seconds. I can never keep her contained. But I do always put a blanket down

Our entire house is hardwood, we have big rugs in living room and in her room.  I just don't like putting her down on bare floors.  I will embrace my nuttiness and maybe I will let her roam around a bit tonight, after I clean all the floors! Stick out tongue

  • We have three dogs, so I know what you are talking about.  Just vacumn a lot, and things will be good.  My kids rarely get sick and they are around the dogs constantly.
  • We tried too. We have 2 long haired cats and a dog who sheds constantly. I am also not the worlds best housekeeper. We tried to keep her in the living room, one of the only rooms that is carpeted and MUCH easier to keep clean, but it only lasted so long. Eventually she became a very quick crawler and a very curious little girl, so there was no keeping her in there anymore. So, we set up a chore list and do the best we can to keep the floors as clean as we possibly can.

  • I made them this awesome playroom out of our formal living room...3 activity tables, a ballpit, a huge foam mat, every toy possible...but does my son want to play in that room? absolutely not.  he wants to crawl around and explore the entire house, especially the kitchen (which is such a PITA to keep clean).  but meh, i let him roam because it makes him happy.  So far, he has been super healthy - not sick once!

  • I have two boxers.  I personally think that my hard wood floors are cleaner than the carpet.  You should go see the new Docum... "Babies"  It shows babies growing up around the world.  You will think less about the few germs on your floors.
