So I just read an article about when your baby might be ready for solids (although, I plan to wait until 6 months unless DD tells me otherwise)... and it said that one of the signs is when your babies birth-weight doubles. Really? DD was 8lbs 11oz at birth and is currently only 10lbs and some odd oz now. Doc said last week that DD is healthy- she's tall and slender, but not unhealthy-skinny or anything. Have your LO's doubled (or close to doubled) their birth-weights?
Re: Weight as a factor in starting solids?
My DS has not doubled birth weight yet. He was 10lbs at birth, and was 18lbs at 4 months.
My dr said to hold off on starting solids until he was eating over 32oz of formula a day. She didn't mention anything about weight.
DS was 8 lbs 10 oz at birth, 13 lbs 8 oz at 2 months, and we have our 4 month appointment next week. But I believe he's probably around 15-16 pounds at this point.
I had never heard of that as a factor, but I will be talking to the pedi next week about when to potentially start solids. I would also like to wait until 6 months. We'll see what he says and make a decision then.
