Is there anything wrong with Super short stim cycles?

Last night was stim night 5 and the RE today asked me if I had enough meds for one more night....ummm yeah! It's only 5 days in!!! I already have an 18 mm and a 17 mm so I think there's a chance I'll trigger tomorrow night after 6 nights of stims. The RE said it's under average and not to worry but Cornell RE's are notoriously vague. Any thoughts? Dr Google is not helping.

My RE believes that stimming less than 7 days can compromise actual maturity (mean the follicle looks like it would have a mature egg but doesn?t really) and egg quality.  His ideal stimming length is 9-10 days.

But, I know every RE has a different opinion on this.

  • I have actually heard that Cornell stims for a shorter time because they trigger a bit earlier.  They like to trigger when the lead follicles are 17 or 18.  Other places will trigger when they are at 20 or so to let the others catch up.  I am sure you are fine.  They know what they are doing :)

    This.  Try not to worry.

Cornell docs are really vague, but probably part of it is b/c they've seen it ALL at this point so nothing surprises them.  I always tell my DH I feel like a medical anomoly and he just laughs - he says if the docs at Cornell thought you were a medical anomoly they'd be ALL over you.  So the fact that they're not concerned and are blase means they're not alamed and know how to handle it, and therefore you don't need to be alarmed.  You're in great hands!  I also have to think that 6 vs. 7 days of stims cannot be that big a deal.

Also - you've had longer stim cycles and they haven't worked out...so a little change of pace could be a good thing!

This is CCRM's belief too......I'd ask if you could at least coast before triggering to get past 7 nights. Just a thought

  • For IVF #1 I was about where you are, and my RE dropped my stim dose but had me keep going. He wanted me to stim for at least 8 days. I'm not sure hoe important it is, but that was his opinion. My lead follie was 23 by the time of trigger, but it allowed some smaller ones to mature.

    Good luck!!
