Finger foods - what, when, and how much?

DD is 7 months and getting solids 3x a day - twice at daycare and then we do "dinner". She's still doing purees and/or cereal for all 3. According to the rice rusks, puffs, teething biscuits etc packaging, these foods can be started when they show signs of crawling. This kid is never going to crawl, she still hates being on her stomach and just rolls right over. I've given her a few rice rusks and she's nearly choked which gives me a heart attack even though I know it will melt.

What did/will you start with for finger foods? Have you used any "real" (/table) foods like bagels? I'm terrified to give her anything and have no idea what size etc I should start with.

  • "This kid is never going to crawl"   lol

    Same here!

  • I've been trying to let DS "practice" occasionally while we eat dinner.  I put puffs, teeny tiny cut up grapes, teeny tiny pieces of chicken or turkey, etc on the highchair and let him play with them.  He gets them in his mouth on occasion and gags and spits them out.  I'm hoping he'll eventually get the hang of it and then I'll give him more.

    Sorry, I'm not much help.
