3rd Trimester

So, how do we feel about cold pills/allergy meds?

I either have a horrific head cold or my allergies are kicking into high gear a bit early this year. I called the doctors office and they said I could take anything Tylenol or Sudafed, and that it was perfectly fine for the baby. I think I just have a weird thing about taking meds while I'm pregnant for some reason.

Anyone have thoughts on the subject?

  • My allergies have been horrible this year too. I live in NC and there has been NO rain to wash the pollen away. I take sudafed but recently my doctor put me on singular. It seems to help and the way I figure if the doctor prescribed or suggested it I will try it because a happier mom makes for a happier baby. Good luck!! Hope you get to feeling better.

  • If you're OB has okay'd the meds, you're fine. My OB gave me a list of safe meds and both Tylenol and Sudafed are on there.

Ditto this.  Robitussin DM is ok too for colds.
  • I take tylenol sinus as little as possible. I let it get so bad I get headaches and really crappy to the husband and I only take one pill.

  • My Doc oked me for Mucinex and then tylenol as needed. I like this because I don't really need any pain reliever, just something to break up the congestion.
  • I take Tylenol Cold or Tylenol Sinus when I get sick.  I took it with DS as well and it was approved my my OB.

  • I took Sudafed when I had a cold a few weeks ago and it was heaven compared to the congestion I was dealing with! I don't regret taking it at all, because I was miserable!! I only took it for a few days and it was MW approved, so no guilt here!

I am literally DYING with my sinus/allergies ... have been since Saturday.  I'm going to take some OTC stuff my doctor approved.  Like you, I've been hesitant but I figure its not good for baby for me to be so miserable
  • I took an approved Claritin the other day and it barely relieved the allergies but LO was much less active, stressing me out. So, I've avoided anything since then.

  • I have taken Zyrtec every single day of this pregnancy. I have asthma and allergies that spell much worse things for me and baby if they get out of control, so I have taken my allergy and asthma meds religiously throughout. My OB, my perinatal specialist (I just go to them for my ultrasounds--baby is healthy), and my allergy/asthma doc have all told me this is perfectly fine.

I would not sweat a little Tylenol and Sudafed at this point. Feel better!

  • I've taken both tylenol and sudafed quite a few times throughout my pregnancy. Both meds are on my "ok list" from my doctor so it didn't bother me at all...
  • Thanks ladies. Helps to know everyone elses docs approve them too. I'm off to the store to pick up some meds. Now, if only Nyquil was approved so I could knock myself out at night and actually get some sleep!!! :)
