Garage sale pricing - baby clothes

What would you pay, in general, for gently used or never-used baby clothes at a garage sale? From shirts to rompers to shorts, pants, and shoes, we'll have quite a bit, and I don't feel like pricing each item. Some things have original tags on. Some are well-known names like Gap, Carter's, and Children's Place. Nothing is noticeably stained, ripped, smelly, or worn-out.

I know people will haggle anyway, but I'm planning to put up a sign on the clothes rack and need suggestions for how to price things. TIA!

Re: Garage sale pricing - baby clothes

  • For used clothing, probably about $1-2; for stuff that's brand new with tags, maybe $3-5.

  • The most I've ever paid for clothes at a garage sale was $1 per item. The cheapest I've ever paid was 25 cents per item.

If you have the well-known names, I'd go for $1 each and then if it seems to not be selling, then lower your price.

  • I agree that for a yard sale, that about $ per item will be about what you'll get. If you want more, you will probably sell them for more on Craigslist. Just list that you hve several piece/outfits and what sizes and that you will sell for $X.xx, or $X.xx/per piece if they don't want the whole lot. I think people who are more interested in certain things would look on Craigslist where people at uard sales are looking for a good deal, but cheap price.
  • We had a garage sale this weekend.  All baby clothes went for $1 per piece and then onsies went for .50 a piece.  They really didn't try to get us to go lower because the prices were already so low.  If they had tags maybe $2 a piece.
  • You should not expect to get more than 10% of your purchase price for clothes at a yard sale.  I typically pay $.50 per piece and often find stuff in stellar condition for $.25 per piece.  I have paid up to $1.00 per piece, but I don't think I've ever paid more than that for baby clothes at a yard sale.
  • 1-2 dollars a piece, onesies cheaper.

If you have 2 or 3 piece outfits I might hang them up and price them seperately esp if tags are on or it was particular brand.

I would bag all socks together and price it for 2 or 3 bucks (depends how many you have), same with bibs.

I listed a big box full of newborn baby clothes on craigslist a long time ago - for $30 for the whole box.  When the lady came to purchase, she LOVED the clothes and was really nice and an easy sale.  So I asked if she'd want to buy future clothes from us and she was thrilled.  Now, whenever I get a box filled up, I email her and she comes immediately and always pays the $30.  It's sooo easy and she is happy as can be.  There's more than 30 items in each box I sell her so she's getting each item for less than a dollar.  But I've made a couple hundred already and she swears she wants to do this until our kids are 10 or so...LOL!

So much easier than haggeling with garage sale people!

That is a sweet deal! You must have good taste in clothes :)

  • I don't usually buy anything over $1 at a garage sale.  I did buy a $2 item last weekend but it was a shirt and skirt so it was really two items.  I love buying things for a quarter or 50 cents.
