Nutramigen??

Has anyone tried Nutramigen? Did it work effectively for your LO? How long did it take for it to work? Did they have a rash on their face with other milks? Have you heard of insurance paying for baby formula?

DS got what seemed to be baby acne but now is a mix of that and a rash on his face. During feeding lately, he will bust out crying for no reason. The dr told me two weeks ago to try soy formula or nutramigen. We tried soy first and its been about two weeks and now its on to the nutramigen. Just wanting to see if anyone has tried this and what your outcome was?

We haven't tried Nutramigen but I know a few people that have. We do Alimentum and it works wonders for us on both of our kids. The rash could be from the saliva and not quite getting the swallowing method down just yet. Try coating around his mouth with a vaseline to make a barrier from the moisture. As for the insurance paying for the formula, most don't but a few do. You would need  a letter from your pediatrician stating that it is necessary for the child , the medical reasons behind putting the baby on this formula and then it is contingent upon the insurance company. Worth a try since it is so expensive but it's unlikely they will pay for it.

  • I thought crying during feeding could indicate reflux?

  • Well he is pulling his legs into his tummy when he cries during feeding. I was told that meant he has gas or is gassy. When I give him Mylicon he calms down and finally starts eating.
  • Have you tried the Gentlease?  Its only about $2 more than the regular formula.  Might be worth trying before buying the really expensive stuff!

  • I second Gentlease. DS was on Alimentum for a while and then the GI Dr. recommended switching to Gentlease to save money and it was just as good. Plus they have the generic of the gentlease.

  • Took DS to the dr today and the dr today me that if you mix nutramigen with prosobee, its the same as buying gentlease. He told me that I can switch off between prosobee and nutramigen since DS won't really drink the nutramigen.
  • We had to switch to that since DD has a milk allergy.  Your DS's symptoms sound exactly like my DD's a few months ago.  The soy  milk doesn't work for milk allergy kids since it has a little bit of cow's milk in it.  We found that out from the pedi AFTER I tried it. It took a few days for the Nutramigen to really make a difference, their bodies have to get all the cow's milk out.
