We use sleep sacks but recently my son has refused to go to sleep without a blanket. With one, he sleeps like a little angel. He still wakes 2-3x a night but at least he'll actually sleep in his crib.
I'm still a little nervous about him having it although he actually moves less than he did without one. He sleeps on his back again instead of rolling to his tummy.
He also has a lovey- are those little blanket squares a suffocation hazard, too?
Re: When did you give a blanket?

I tried taking it away from him after he sleeps, but he wakes up within 1/2 hour of me taking it off. Little brat- he inherited Mom's love of blankets!
His room is pretty warm plus he has a sleeper and sleep sack but he still wants a blankie.
today actually. it was colder than usual and i wanted him to be warm enough for his nap. i gave him a crocheted blanket though, so it has holes.
he sleeps with loveys too - one like the one you mentioned. he moves around so much that it will not suffocate him. he mostly just plays with them and then pushes them aside when he goes to sleep.
ETA: he is 9 months old.
When we started staying with my ILs and their house in an icebox! That was about a month ago.
I've used a blanket since we brought her home from the hospital. Now she has two. They are both crocheted and very holey so I don't worry about her suffocating. She gets excited when she sees her blankets and knows it's bed time.
we gave her blanket since day one (it's cold in our area) and darn house heater temp gage lies in the middle of the night =/
however, i pulled out all blankets two weeks ago... she rolled the blanket around her head covering her face. we were lucky it happend during day time and got it off her face right away. she's getting stronger and is able to remove the tucked in blanket from the mattress.
i recently got a knitted blanket with holes, i hear those are better to use. but i don't know if that is warm as a blanket.
her lovely is her burp cloth...we're so luck cause her burp cloth are all the same. if she trully needs her burp cloth to fall asleep on her bed, we take it out before we hit the sack.
Do you have any Aden & Anais blankets? They are breathable but warm enough, which sounds like the perfect solution for you. The lovey is fine - my DD has had her since 6 months and it's been a life/sleepsaver!
