Learned something from Kendra (on E!), and now a ? for c-section people

Last night I was watching the Kendra show.  She said she had a c-section, but instead of having her abs cut, they pulled them apart to get the baby out.  I've never heard of this option!  I thought they just sliced you horizontally (vertically in some rare/emergency instances) and that was that.  Has anyone had a c-section Kendra style?

BTW, I love love love love love that she is admitting that it's hard to drop the baby weight, and that she is wearing spanks in her exercise video.  Somehow that makes me feel better about myself. Big Smile

Hmmm I thought this was standard practice. That's all I've heard them talk about on A Baby Story. Very scientific, I know. ; )

It could very well be, and I just assumed they sliced all the way through!  I *should* know - I had a csection with #1, but I never asked how they did it since it was unplanned.  I'll have a planned c-section this time, and I'll ask for sure!

  • For my c/s, my abs were "pulled apart." I think that's how they are all done these days. My scar is about 4 inches long, below my hairline, and pretty much invisible. My abs were very weak for a long time (sitting up from a laying position was HARD!), but they eventually tightened up again.

That all being said, I'm going for a VBAC this time if the baby is positioned correctly and everything. SO much faster for recovery.

  • PP's are correct... *normally* the muscles themselves aren't cut, just the skin and the aponeurosis (which is a connective-tissue-type-sheath covering the muscles) are actually cut. The muscles separate easily once that sheath is cut and are pulled apart.

  • I know nothing about C sections, but I love that show!!!  I love how real she is.  Like, she cried to her husband about how she looks and feels and stuff and it's just so normal and real.  I am a fan!

  • I'm sure parts of it are staged, but the fact is that she IS struggling to lose the weight, and she IS on camera experiencing some of the same things relatively normal women do during her pregnancy and after. SO, say it's staged if you want, but I'd say its got enough reality to be entertaining.
