I hang out on the Baby Names board and of course there are a lot of posts about the recent ssa top names of 2009 list.
A bunch of posters on that board don't like overly popular names, and I feel the same way. One poster recommended looking at the trend of your name choice over time and seeing how much it jumps each year.
Our name for our next baby is Scarlett, the only name we've ever agreed on for a girl. We selected DS' name no problem, and have another boy's name picked out.
Scarlett has risen from #900 something to the 100s in the last 10 years. I think it's becoming very popular. ![]()
Re: Sad, my girl name is getting very popular
Aw, thanks! We just might have to screw that damn list!
DH: 31, no issues
4-6/2012 100mg of Clomid + trigger + IUI/TI = BFN
7/2012 150mg of Gonal-f + trigger + IUI = BFN
8/2012 Surprise unmedicated BFP!! Due May 8, 2013
I agree with PPs who said to do what you want. The thing is... you never know when any given name might become popular. I would hate to have chosen a name just because it wasn't common (instead of one I loved) and had that name end up popular in a few years... might as well have picked the one you love, right? (I hope that makes sense)
We wanted to stick with names that were off of the top 10 list and not so obscure that people would say, "Huh?" when they heard it - but other than that, we went with what we liked.
FWIW, I love the name Scarlett. Scarlett and Sabrina were the girl names we talked about.
