Moving to Cleveland- please advise

Hi everyone,

Our family is relocating to Cleveland in the next 6-12 months.  I am trying to gather information about different places to live.  We need to stay on the West or South side (suburbs or country-- not downtown).

I am a SAHM to a little girl and we are planning to grow our family.  I would like to find a friendly community with great schools, parks, and family-friendly activities.  Hoping for a few acres of land (2-5).

Any suggestions for where to begin our search?

 Thanks!

  • usually around this time the cleveland magazine comes out with all the rankings of schools, cities, etc so if you have a realtor, look into that. Its very helpful. Independence, OH is a VERY family friendly city. My SIL lives there and her family loves it. You may also want to check out Brecksville, Bainbridge areas as well. Good luck on the move!

Independence (south, but slightly east) is nice, as are Parma, Parma Hts, Strongsville (southwest); Rocky River, Westlake (west), but you won't find houses on 2-5 acres there. For larger property sizes, look into the Avon area (west), Brunswick (southwest), Medina (southwest) and possibly Olmsted Township (southwest). A good, local realtor who knows the area can help you out a lot, too.

  • Hinkley (southwest) is a great area with nice parks and a little land.  Bay Village is another nice area without the land though.
  • We're in Lakewood condo right now, and currently looking in Bay Village, Lakewood and Rocky River.   The Bay Village schools are always ranked in the top 5 of the state, although they're not my fav, but as previously mentioned, not a lot of land.  Avon/Avon Lake have good schools, great pediatricians and some land.  We have friends in Independence who LOVE it - we'd consider but it'd be too long of a commute. Good luck!
  • Thanks for all the replies.  We have connected with a realtor and will look into those areas.
