Friday - Had burgers, discussed school choices, and possibly moving. Watched the DVR.

Saturday - got the kids hair cut before driving to PA and going to Strasburg Railroad  and to Dutch Wonderland  The kids didn't take a long enough nap in the car and by 6:30 were a mess. Carter threw a lovely screaming fit at the hotel over something trivial which was followed up with a call from the front desk to see if our room was satisfactory (aka - calling to see if we were harming our kid. :P )

Sunday - Since nothing in PA opens before 10 (and I'd been up with Carter since 5:40 - I was really hoping the blackout shades in the hotel would entitle us to a another hour of sleep...no luck) we went to Target to let the kids look at the toys and do our weekly Target shopping. Got to DW when they opened and walked on to nearly every ride. It was so cold and windy. We went to lunch at Cracker Barrel where Carter fell asleep mid chew and slept nearly the entire ride home. Once we finally got the kids to sleep (darn daylight savings) we watched the DVR.

Carter was up again this morning at 5:30. I feel like a need a weekend to recover from our weekend.

I don't know what I am looking forward to this week - but next weekend is the kids' birthday party - which will be fun and exhausting!

  • wow 2brides - thats a busy weekend! but i'm sure the kids had a blast :)

Friday Sprout went to My Gym and the rest of us went out for apps/drinks and watched a bit of a softball game (the team that DW used to coach).

Saturday morning was nice and mellow. it was rainy so we played inside and sprout helped me make margarita cupcakes.  in the afternoon we went to a cinco de mayo picnic at a friends house and had a lovely time. I'm so glad we've managed to keep up a social life with the kids...its not exactly the same, of course, but enough to keep us feeling like people outside of being moms ;)

Sunday we went to church and over to my parents' house for brunch. My aunt and her partner are visiting from CA so it was great to spend some time with them. Sprout took a really long nap (we finally woke him at 5pm) and went to the playground w/ A while i stayed home and did a bunch of cooking. the rest of the evening was just dinner/bath/books, but it was really nice...Sprout was so lovey and, honestly, really out of character for sunday night. Both kids were just happy and easy - which is the best mother's day gift i could ask for!

and a funny story side note: Sprout was excited that yesterday was a special day...and he understood it was a special day just for women...but he kept forgetting exactly what the special day was...so at church he'd excitedly greet every woman we saw with a different holiday: "Happy Birthday!" or "Happy Easter!" or, my personal fave, "Happy Passover!"  it was hysterical.

  • ours was super busy. Friday I left work early because I was decorating a cake for our friends' daughter and wanted to make sure I had enough time. I worked on it some in the afternoon, after some time feeding and playing with monkey.

Friday evening was the final rehearsal for the chorus I sing with, and of course it ran over. I got home after 10 and spent some time with the two of them (they were cuddling on the couch), then finished up the cake. it was really late by the time I got finished.

we headed off with the cake to the 2nd b-day party on Saturday afternoon. we were there for a few hours, then ran home to change and get ready for my concert. I dropped the two of them off at her sister and sister's gf's house because I had to be there an hour earlier, and then the four of them came to the concert that night. Monkey was soooooo good the whole time. I heard him make a little noise and cooing a few times, but as one of my fellow singers who commented on how good he was and also heard him said, "only grumpy people don't like those noises!" he slept on grandpa for a while during the second half.

Sunday morning we were planning to go to the early service and I had set my alarm, but apparently we were all so tired that no one heard it or woke up--even me, who apparently hit the snooze like 3 times. we woke up 15 minutes before we need to leave. my wife said "we can do it!" and hopped up to feed him. I threw clothes on and got a bottle from the fridge (his bag was still packed from the night before), then I changed his clothes while she dressed. wouldn't you know it, we actually did make it out of there in time!

after the service we grabbed a quick lunch, then I changed and headed off to the other concert. afterward my sister and I went out to an early dinner with my parents, and my wife's stopped by the house on their way home, although I wasn't home in time to see them myself.

last night the boy did not want to go to bed. he'd fall asleep and I'd try to take him in a put him in his crib, but as soon as I took my hands away he would start crying, no matter how asleep he had been a second before. he wouldn't even wake when I carried him in, just when I stopped touching him and went to leave. he finally settled enough around 1am--after 4+ hours of trying--and I went to bed. I'm not sure what was going on, if it was just the long busy weekend or he wasn't feeling well, or if he's finally teething after showing signs of it for months. hopefully he has an easier time tonight, though.

wow, that was long. see? I told you we had a lot going on!

i hate to say it, but that was our first sign of teething (and it was right around 5 months, 3 weeks).  she couldn't get to sleep and laying flat made it so much worse.

yeah, that's kind of what I was leaning toward. I didn't try any gel on his gums or anything, and our tylenol was in the recalled batch and we still need to replace it, so none of that either. I think if it happens again tonight that's probably what it is. if it does I may try the gel to see if that soothes him.
